What did you do to/with your chainsaw today

Bought a new one, seems to be a good one. Had to figure out what it wanted to start. Took about a hour
Finally figured it out...

I can't believe it but I bought a Dewalt battery operated one. I used it for the first time Saturday. I will give it an A grade so far. Biggest thing I cut was a 5" diameter water oak.

As far as battery operated, I've heard the Dewalt is pretty good. You're not going to be bucking logs all day long without a whole bunch of batteries. But for some quick work, the electrics should be not too bad.

There's a few brands now where their battery operated OPE is pretty decent.

This thread is dead! I dug my 2 out today and knocked over 2 white pines and a jack pine.

I keep making that face cut at a downward angle and the trees pull to the left off of the stump. I did that last year too and haven't yet figured out why. The white pines are delimbed and I only bothered to clean the jack pine bits that were near the burn pile. Tomorrow I need to pull a permit and clean up this brush, knock over a few more, and see how many of last year's stumps I can make disappear from the pile.

Firewood. Cut and split and stacked in cords to dry for the winter. Unless you are a very forward thinker then replenishing the wood pile is not quite on the advent horizon just yet. Maybe just after Labor Day weekend at the beginning of September......................................SEPTEMBER?????? WTF did summer go??? This purely blows, two, maybe three weeks of more or less decent warm weather and, mid August, whoomph, down go the temps at night again. Too much methane in the air from all those Polar Bear Farts or something.

Just got mine in. Had enough left from last year we didn’t need much.

I need some advice guys. I'm not knowledgeable on this topic. My brother wants a chainsaw for Christmas. My family is looking to me for guidance.

This is our last Christmas in the "suburbs". We'll be moving to a partially wooded 1.5-acre lot. We'll be using the saw primarily for storm clean-up. We have some really big trees still on our lot and also on the adjacent lots around our perimeter. I don't think we want an entry level saw, but I also don't think we need a professional grade saw, built to be used every day. He and I have a strong preference for stuff made in the USA. We'd be open to something made overseas, depending on where. Definitely not something made in China. China bad.

I think where I need the most help is zeroing in on how long of a bar and chain we want. All suggestions and help is appreciated. Because of advertising that at least some of them are made in USA, I'm biased towards Stihl, but I'm open to your suggestions. Also, since it is a Christmas present, we'll be wanting suggestions for something new. Thanks guys!

I’ve been using Stihl for over 15 years. They’ve had miscellaneous issues but mostly normal wear and tear. If you’re looking at something that is storm cleanups 16” bar is fine and you can get a home owner style for under $400. And the $400 is a 16” 250c that will take 16” or 18” bar with plenty of gusto. The step down is around $300. I was just looking at them is how I know. A buddy of mine has a Johnson Red and it’s held up well for him. The other guys will probably have better input than me though.

All chainsaws have their issues. I got my old craftsman running again by putting on a new carb. Bought an electric one for the wife. It’s actually pretty decent.

If I were to buy a new one for lotsa logs it would be a stihl or echo.
