Today is the first day I really dig into my 87 Monte Carlo Aero coupe, maroon/maroon non T's. Just took delivery on it last weekend. It has 867 miles on it. The car has obviously been sitting most of it's life so a few things aren't up to par. First, the tach in not working. The power seat, which looks as if it's been added by the original owner is not moving for and aft, only up and down. Also the metal frame inside the seat cushion is broken. Looks like someone has added the power seat track since the holes on it are reamed out to fit the stock seat. Also, it appears they cut a hole in the inner seat cushion support to install the power seat controls and that's why the support split. Took out the power seat track, had my friend help me weld up a patch on the seat frame and am currently waiting for a set of manual seat tracks. Hopefully I'll get the right ones. Next, the "chrome" on the power window switches are deteriorating so I will replace them when the new ones arrive. Same for the ends of the door straps but I can't find that design anywhere. Seems as though only the square type is available. On aero coupe's there is a piece of black rubber trim attached to each quarter sail panel to cover over the rear window flange on each side. These pieces are warped beyond repair so I bought a piece of vinyl cove molding that I'll cut and shape and install over the exposed flange. Driver and passenger shoulder belt bolt covers are missing. Got a pair and a can of dye on the way. Next the exhaust system has several holes in it around the area where the pipe splits to go to each muffler. I'm replacing everything from the cat back with kit from Jegs that features aluminized steel. Hopefully it will last longer. Got one headlight out, go figure? I will completely flush brake fluid and coolant. Changed the oil for synthetic and added a Liqui Moly treatment. Tires look brand new, paint and body excellent. Tried uploading pictures but got an error message saying they were too large.
Good luck that stuff is expensive. My daughter's car has that setup and I looked into getting parts over the years nothing is cheap

Damn. Ever come across one that is a close match? How is it wrong? Looks? Performance? Mounting?
As long as it will fit in a g console and at least look like 90% the same, it's fine with me. The hard part would be finding a 78/79 cover plate, or fabricating my own, in my mind.
The shifters are not all the same there was several different designs I I tried two or three different designs somewhere taller than the G-Body console some had the wrong throw for the shifter cable later I'll send you some pictures of what the factory one looks like it even has its own brackets for 78-79 they can be fabricated but you're going to have to find a shifter that's going to work and it's got to be one for a GM trans or the throes going to be off
Well, sh*t. Guess I gotta keep my eyeballs peeled for a 78/79 W30 then. That's being parted out. Ain't payin 3-5k for a shifter lol. I ain't no Mopar guy. Send me the pics when you can, no rush.
