What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2020]

I'm in the middle of replacing body mount bushings. On one hand I'm thinking what the hell did I get myself into and on the other it's not as bad as I thought and it needed to be done. I'm hoping to get it back together this weekend to take it for a spin.

I ran into the passenger side #4 bolt not even being there, #2 passenger snapping immediately, 6 & 7 passenger & 6 driver having to cut access holes to stop the nuts from spinning.

I need to find somewhere local to get a tool to remove the broken bolts from the cage nuts.
What tool is this you speak of? It's easiest just to cut the floor above, then replace with a new cage nut or conventional nut and washer.

Those are going to be a PITA to remove, even with bolt extractors.
Just replace the washers since you already have holes cut.

Finally got to pull the car out of the garage for the first time in over a year and a half now that it’s finally done. Been a while since this ol girl has seen sunshine and the light of day!!

I also took the opportunity to wash the garage floor and squeegee it out. Sooo much better!!!

The ones I was hoping to use an extractor on I don't have holes cut yet. They are the 2 & 4 position mounts.
You’d be far better of to just slice them all open and replace the cage nuts, it’ll save you some headache in the future. You could even go full old man and slather the things in grease to *hopefully* keep it from happening again.

Or maybe it’s being a desperate northerner like myself.... hmm...

I wish I could say that brake work has gone well...

I replaced the passenger side brake hose and stole another caliper off of the El Camino as it was still sticking. I got everything together and bled, and the passenger side worked well. Unfortunately the drivers side decided to stick hard on the test drive.

The brake pad in the picture started out as black, and when I took the tire off the lugnuts were smoking.

Guess the El Camino is going to be giving up the other front caliper as well.

Measured current water pump height. Mine is indeed a 4.5" pump. Ordered a 4.25" flowkooler pump (#1527) to help in cooling and pulley alignment.
