What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2020]

One of the things that I did yesterday besides the door hinge was to spray some PB Blaster on the bolts that hold the license plate bracket to the front bumper. They were rusted so badly that tonight I cut them off instead, then remounted it with new bolts. I also repaired the fuel line at the input side of the filter in the engine bay. I had noticed a couple of days ago that it looked a little weepy. I saw the beginning of a small tear below the clamp, so I loosened the clamp, slid it down out of the way, and cut the end off the hose, and reattached the line.

Pulled everything out and organized all the new parts, the stuff I have to repaint and sorted into plastic totes. Almost ready to start painting the frame, just a little more grinding. Its going to be running again in the next 2 weeks.

Put in a junction block behind the kickpanel, then ran more 10 gauge through the firewall and tucked it into the wiring loom.

Not sure about a Malibu but Cutlass G bodies already have a power distribution block up behind the instrument panel on the driver side. The junction block is white with large orange (constant power) wires connected to it. The seat harness plugs directly into this block.

I mean you could always make your own with H4 conversion housing and LED parts from The Retrofit Source.

I know I’m going to attempt to stuff projectors in 4x6 housings.
Very much looking forward to that, I really like The Retrofit Source stuff, you going to do a custom laser etch into the projector?

I’m debating on the etching honestly. Still have to look through their catalog or find something for a custom etch.

The real sticking point is the projector size. Mini D2S projectors are the smallest available that aren’t a fog light projector, but they’re still kinda big. I have some ACME H1s from my daily after I wrecked it for test fitting. Thinking I’ll do demon eyes either way.

I went generic and do love the look, but regretted not doing a custom etch projector

Yesterday, I changed out the upper left door hinge. Was a much more involved process than I imagined it would be. Overall, I spent several hours.

The door is now better aligned than before, and closes easier too.
This would have helped, and saved time. Not sure how well it would work on a sloping driveway.

We're both having to replace the Hinges. Today I just now got finished replacing the Driver Side lower door hinge on the 81' Malibu. For me as well it was very much so a process, I also had to paint that part of the pillar black so's I won't have to worry about it later. Hardest part for me was putting the door back on with the inner plates (With the Thread Holes) moving around which I had to use an Allen Wrench to help me line it up so I could put the bolts back in. Allot of cussing and allot of sweat, but it's on. The door is no longer hanging and closes well. Strangest part for me is that the door closes smoothly with the window down, but when it's up I have to push alittle hard to get to close all the way. Otherwise I finally got this part finished. Kudo's to us both 5spdCab. 😎 👍
