What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2020]

We're both having to replace the Hinges. Today I just now got finished replacing the Driver Side lower door hinge on the 81' Malibu. For me as well it was very much so a process, I also had to paint that part of the pillar black so's I won't have to worry about it later. Hardest part for me was putting the door back on with the inner plates (With the Thread Holes) moving around which I had to use an Allen Wrench to help me line it up so I could put the bolts back in. Allot of cussing and allot of sweat, but it's on. The door is no longer hanging and closes well. Strangest part for me is that the door closes smoothly with the window down, but when it's up I have to push alittle hard to get to close all the way. Otherwise I finally got this part finished. Kudo's to us both 5spdCab. 😎 👍

I had noticed that my door had always closed better/easier when the window was down also. A couple of weeks after doing the power window upgrade, I saw a post about adjusting the window stops inside the door shell. I will attempt to find that post and let you know where it's at, or PM the link to you.
When I had the panel off last Saturday to tighten a loose electrical connection, I adjusted those stops on the driver side. Getting that taken care of, along with getting the door aligned better with the new hinge install, I find that my door closes so much easier. Soon, I hope to install the weather strip around the door, and install the insulation and water shield as I find and install stereo speakers. After that, the last thing the doors will need are the upper panels.
Two other things that I would like to do with the doors, install power mirrors, and fit a thoroughly modern keyhole into the door. Both of these things are not necessary, but I do desire them for the future convenience.

Hey Davey, I found that thread. It was started by 4oldsmobile64 on June 4, titled "Side window aggravation 86 442". Anubis posted a link on making adjustments to the window stops.

Re: all the plans and options. Managed to slither underneath and went with Plan B, which works up to a point. Once I had the tab mocked into place and tried to line it up with the clutch throw out arm, it became apparent that the tab on the bracket had to be lengthened just over an inch or so to get it into line so now need to find a cut off section of flat plate and do that welder voodoo one more time.

Received an all wheel alignment that was done by someone in the know. Rear thrust angle set after installing the 8.8 kit (weld in brackets and a-arms), camber and caster set to factory specs plus. Holy shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhcoooooooooooooow. It's night and day and handles beyond better than I thought it ever could.

If considering an alignment, then don't blink an eye at getting it done correctly. It cost me $100, but I would've

Put even more caster and camber in for a real treat. The factory specs are, let's say, "conservative".

While doing a lot of the suspension so it could be aligned for the Carlisle drive, decided to finally get the vinyls on the calipers since the wheels were off

Took these:

Added these used tires:

So I could get these on the car to do my C5 Brakes.

No sense buying new tires to just roll around, sit, and start to dry rot. The engine is still at the machine shop, so at least now I can work on installing the brakes.
