What did you do to your G-Body today 2024

Put on a new Harwood 4" cowl hood. I removed the circular coil spring and left the entire hinge there - lined up and works perfectly! I will be getting it painted to match, don't worry.

How’s the fitment on that? I’m looking to buy a fiberglass hood in the future and opinions on all the manufacturers are a seesaw to say the least.

It fits great! Using the stock hinges helped since those were already lined right up. I had to adjust the side-to-side fitment slightly, but that took literally 5 minutes total. I say go for it!

Installed new oil pressure switch so I can unwind my choke and start the car normally again.

Can you machine the nuts down to be shorter overall and get rid of that wibble or is this a case of all new nuts?

I think I'm actually just going to swap back to the old wheel studs, torquing them down a lot more got rid of the movement. But still a ton of noise, so pretty sure the lugs are bottoming out now that the spacer isn't there. Gonna see about that this week sometime

Put in a different dome light, temporary setup as it will clip into the headliner board whenever I get one. The cover is getting painted.

Swapped out the broken factory steering wheel for a Monte unit. Horn button is being painted.

Fixed a bunch of scratches, still fixing hail dents, covered in sealer. The other half will get the same treatment before the entire thing sees a lot more work and plenty more paint.

I think the H body Starfire may have an Olds horn button emblem that may fit & replace the SS one.
I believe you're correct and that's an excellent idea, but I don't have one of those handy. I do, however, have a complete Olds horn button that fits the Monte guts with just a tiny bit of fab work. And I mean tiny. It's the one I posted in my build thread that started life as Dark Briar Brown, and in this pic you can see they're about the same overall size and that the Olds piece even has stitching. I still need to perform the modification so I can mount the button, but with it sitting in place on the wheel I think it looks like the factory put it there.

Working on the front bumper filler, it was worn through in two spots because the grills / header panel rubbed through it when the radiator support bushings wore out. It’s beat but I’ve had no luck finding a better one and the fiberglass reproduction I bought doesn’t fit worth a darn so reusing the original is the way it is.

I used JB Weld clear two part epoxy adhesive to attach a 1/16” x 1/2” inch aluminum angle to the backside to rigid things up so it won’t flex and crack the filler on the outer painted side. I used JB Weld again on the outside to fill the holes and will sand that tomorrow and see what it looks like. Probably used regular body filler to skim it, or maybe fiberglass filler?

Got the front filler finished up today, by no means perfect but pretty nice for my less than stellar body filling skills. I used fiberglass filler to build up the worn corners and got them pretty close to the way they were born. I sprayed three heavy coats of high build and wet sanded. And two more coats and wet sanded again. Painted late this afternoon in the driveway and moved it immediately into the garage to dry on saw horses.

Donovan, don’t zoom in too close! 😉

You know that’s the first thing I’m gonna do!
😅
Looks great from what I can see, I just hope it holds up long term.
