Last winter was hard. Had storms and snow take out lots of MASSIVE old pear and peach trees. Some of the trees were about 40 to 50 years old.
Well, earlier in the winter/spring we had some of them cut up to use for smoking wood.
Had some help today, got 4 truckloads of the wood back to the house, stacked not tossed.
Here's one loaded down about to get put away. Look at how wide the base trunks were.

Yesterday I did something I had been putting off for 7 years. When we moved to Ottawa in 2010 we ended up responding to a Kijiji ad for a workbench. Dude was a heavy machine repair tech and was moving back out West and couldn't take it all with him - we ended up with the workbench, a 2-stage IR compressor, a HD vice, and a lot of heavy plate steel. Some of that 1/2" plate would end up on top of the workbench because it could take a lickin'. Anyway, that plate had things welded to it previously and always made precision work on the bench difficult due to the sharp protruding edges.
3 hours of cutting and grinding later I was left with this (and a tight back):
Also our five year-old determined she was a big girl and only wanted two wheels on her bike. So now we are working on her balance - because she learned falling off a bike sucks.

Bought a new pushmower today. Old reliable, the smokey 2 stroke, orange tank Lawn Boy Commercial mower that my grandfather bought back in the late 80s finally gave up the ghost. Its been losing compression for years, but it finally has lost so much it won't stay running under any load. It would still run on really richly mixed gas, but barely. The smokey SOB was heavy as hell and it wasn't self propelled. Still it ran great for a long time. Rust In Peace. Actually it won't rust, it had a cast magnesium deck.
So I bought a Honda Self-Propelled from Home Depot. It came preassembled in a fancy box. There are no adjustments for the engine, I guess that's how they all are now. All you do it pull it and it starts on the first pull. Fine by me I guess.
I looked at some Commercial Toros but for as much as I use a push mower, they just aren't worth the money. I use the old Cub Cadet for most of the grass cutting anyways, the push mower is just for the edges and tight spots around the flowerbeds.

Nice buy! Them Honda's are good mowers and will give you years of use.
An elderly friend gave, yep gave me his 4 or 5 year old Toro self propelled mower because it was "old"!!! I've had it now for 3 years and all I've done to it was sharpen the blade, new plug and air filter. It runs like a beast, and has the little hose hookup on the deck to help clean it.
Thanks, I'm satisfied with my purchase. I don't expect it to last as long as the Lawn Boy, but it came with a 3 year warranty which is better than most. Consumer Reports said Honda and Toro were the best ones, but this Honda was significantly cheaper than a comparable Toro.
Nice score on the Toro from your friend. Hard to believe what people will just throw away. I pretty much use all my equipment as long as I can, as with the old Lawn Boy. I was even gonna rebuild it, but I reringed it several years ago as a band-aid fix, so it would need bored and an oversize piston if I were to rebuild it again. It's just not worth putting any more money into.
For sure! Speaking of lawn equipment, I'm still rocking a Shindaiwa straight shaft trimmer that was given to me about 10 years ago! It was used then, but still works great albeit a little heavy after 30 mins of weed whacking!
