What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2021]

For my project, I spent time on my Pinto again today. The fuel sending unit arrived Thursday, and I installed it that evening. Today I mounted and plumbed the electric fuel pump. I emptied all the parts that were being stored in the back of the Pinto, then used the shop vac to vacuum all the 25yr old dust/dirt/debris that has collected.
Also rolled the windows up tight because there is a chance of rain tomorrow. I have had the windows open about an inch or so, all summer long so that the heat does not get too intense inside.

So before any rain fell today, and after running all of the shopping errands, I managed to get the correct bolts to bolt the valve cover on, and put new spark plugs in. About the time that I was finished with those two items, the rain started, so I put the tools away and went indoors.

Installed all new window felts on the truck as well as new door panels. And the stock grungy arm rests. Took apart the driver's side regulator to see why it took hulk force to roll up. Took it apart. Cleaned and greased everything. Same sh*t. Idk.
Wind noise is half as deafening now so that's good.
Also fixed the floppy steering wheel. There are two conical bushings that center the shaft in the upper bearing and are held by a snap ring. There is no groove for the ring so I bent it a little and slid it back down.
Oh also now it only starts in reverse and drive instead of park and neutral.
So.
Gotta fix that.

I just got a report from the Arborist about my 5 acres of CRP tree program ground. They found that there was a bunch of invasive Autumn Olive trees that have to be cut down. The sucky part is that these are not one solid trunk, but a cluster of shoots that make getting down to the base to cut them out super fun. Believe it or not a pole saw has been way more useful than the chainsaw has been. I have probably cleared about 100-150 trees so far with many, many more to go. There goes my weekends for the next month or two.

Started setting up my Haloween display. I used to mount a floodlight on a tree near my house but had it cut down last year as it posed a danger. I welded up a steel stand that is bolted to the stump to hold up the floodlight.

Put a few minutes in on Sunday to extract the old driver's side muffler clamp and substitute in a new one that had had a bit of modification done to the saddle that slips onto its attaching bolt to get the band ends to close up tighter. Seems to have worked as the pipe has no give or twist in it.

A.M, today came with a warning call for work tomorrow so I headed for the shop earlier than usual to clean up some loose ends.

Brought out the Mig and attached the drop rods from the rubber biscuit mounts solidly to the new pipe to complete that installation. Did mark the matching older pipe in case I elect to clip it to get them to match for exposure.

Pulled the other rear wheel and put both of them back on the rack; brought down the winter tires!!! Yeah, yeah, maybe too early some are thinking but around here the kids get to wear snowsuits as Halloween costumes so better safe than sorry and I hate having to do tires in the front driveway in the cold.

With the wheels off, I could pull the drums and check the shoes. Barked up my compressor and used the long blower wand to clean out the brakes of dust. The long wand is about 3 or so feet in length so keeps me well away from the scene of the grime. Took the opportunity to do some crevice work on the frame to get some of the dust and sand and salt out of the cracks and hidey places. More of that to happen.

Flopped the drums onto a piece of cardboard and gave them a fresh coat of black paint for the winter.

Climbed into my latest about to get dirty and greasy bunny suit and slithered under the front of the vehicle to grease the front end. Still have the idler and pitman arm to do but that requires clean clothes as I have to enter the cab and unlock the ignition to get the steering wheel to turn to fully expose the desired nipples (nudge, nudge, wink wink) so they can be pumped full of grease for the upcoming nastiness.

After that, it is scrape and wire wheel time and then a layer of Rust-Mort and possibly some POR 15 with a topcoat of Krylon Semi- Flat Black. This isn't about pretty here, just about preservation.

This is the last week of semi-unemployed me. I have had since the last week of August 'off' while my advisor reviews my Master's thesis. I do some edits here and there but it's mostly waiting for professors to do their other stuff they NEED to do before they can get stuff like my Thesis reviewed.

I start a real engineering job again next Monday, so I got a few more days off before back to the real world.

Did some remodeling on my model building shop. Replaced a small countertop with a larger one, did some organizing and opened the shop room up a bit.

Also stumbled on a steady rest for my lathe last night. After some discussion with the seller I determined it is an EXACT fit for my '41 monarch lathe which is unheard of. Bit expensive at $250 but absolutely once in a decade find. It will be really nice for doing longer work on my lathe since the bed on it is pretty short.

I can build driveshafts now with the tooling I have so watch out world! Haha!

Installed a new amp and head unit for the Caprice, was trying to modify the old delco radio for AUX, but when I opened it the board was discoloured due to heat problems. The traces were damaged too, including the ground- I repaired it, and would turn on a few times but eventually stopped.
