Finished the install of my lift in the garage today. I used 2x12” planks to give the car a level platform to drive over the lift so I can use it for our other vehicles that ride much lower than my Olds. Pretty happy with it, have about $900 all in with new hydraulic lines, 2-6’ lengths of 5” Chanel Steel to jump across the lift platform to the cars lift points and the cost of the 2x12 planks. Had the car running today as well, been a long time since it ran for any length of time, and she moved under her own power into her new perch.

I see two options for increasing safety with your blocking.
1) use a full length double 2x on the bottom, or
2) cut your full length 2x to the same overall length of the jack and reposition the stacked 2x's, so that you are not depending on a single 2x layer overhanging the ends of the jack.

Work continues on the work benches. Time to make some 16ga shelving. Cranked the AC and fans, made a template, grabbed the 6' sheet, and busted out Senior Plasma Cuttero.

Fabricated a brake.

Cut some reliefs to make the bending a breeze (after trying it the hard way).

Two done and fitted. I'll tack them in later.

Now I can stop storing crap on top.

Next step is to make things to hang various tools on (clamps, grinders, etc) and some power/cable management. Baby steps.

Also, accidentally plasma cutting a 2x4 may smell nice, but it is a sketchy AF experience.

Found out the less than a year old Pittsburgh 1.5T aluminum "racing" jack no lifty. Got to use the new Daytona 3T instead which I'm glad I bought it 2 weeks ago. Now I gotta find that receipt for it to exhange it or get my money back.

Took a hot minute to burn in the shelves, and then I added some 16ga flat stock and some hooks to hang things on.

Feeling pretty happy about this whole project. Next step is to add a "power bar" to plug grinders and things into.
