Being young most of my friends hate my Cutlass but as I tell them it's my car not there's I just love the look of them, Now as I've been doing alot of work on my Cutlass people are starting to change their minds about it and say it's gonna be bad *ss finshed but what I tell them I know you guys agree Cutlasses and G Bodies in general are bad *ss! 😀

Keep the stories coming guys I love reading them!

I hate how some people just cant see the potential in things. You can show them 2 of the exact same cars, one fixed up and one beat up, and they will still say "thats a piece of sh*t, I cant believe your going to buy that" and then show them the fixed up one, and they would probably like it. They wont even know its the same car.

this is so true. i remember a couple years ago i came across a good deal on a late 70's Z-28 for a great price. it was in need of paint and some work, but complete and no rust. i wanted to pick it up but my wife whined and bitched and said she thought they were the ugliest car on the road. so i gave in and passed it up since i wanted to pick my battles and was still hoping to get another cutty without to much of a fight. a few month later we saw one in a parking lot all done up and she was like " if your going to get a project, get one of those. i love those style cars" . it took me 20 minutes to convince her it was the exact same thing as the Z she "hated" a few months earlier. it all worked out for the best though, got my cutty now and shes down the road, making some other lucky guy miserable.

My first gbody was a 78 Grand Prix fully loaded (except no t-top) I made it look good but it didn't have any power (stock 301) drove it for a few years, I sold that and then bought an 81 Regal that came with a v6 so I built a 400 Chevy for that.
Keeping the Regal I still bought project cars I had a few t-top Regals and 78-80 Montes and an 83 Cutlass. Then I bought my current Monte and ended up selling my Regal.
People still don't really appreciate the gbodies especially if you only tell them what it is.
Example:
My buddy moved in to a new house last year and his neighbor is a car guy so he tells him about my car and the guy says "Why the hell would anyone waste their time and money building an 83 Monte" I think my jaw hit the floor when he told me that, anyways I end up meeting the guy at a car show about a month later and he pulls up in old Dodge van/pick up thing with a mild 340 and I just kind of laughed to myself as people flocked to check out my car but not his Dodge.

I always loved the g-body platform, especially the monte ss. The only problem I had was that everyone had the ss, so I wanted something different. The cutlass was the answer, with the luxury look and those sporty split grills, who could ask for more? You don't see too many of them around here, so it was hard finding a decent one. I found mine not too far from my house on CL. A guy about 20 or so was selling it for $1000 firm, because he wanted a 90-ish caprice. Good start, the body and motor were in good shape, but I put a lot of work into it and here we are. Love it, would do it all over again if I had to. 😀

Ohhhhhh man don't even get me started on a the 2nd gen F-Bodies! What I would give for a 77-80 Firebird transam! But I love the look of G Bodies. If you don't like G Bodies then :flipthebird:

Well one day I was looking at my refrigerator and thought it would look cool if I tipped it over and put wheels on it... Then I relised gm took that idea in 1978. No but really I have loved them since I was 16 and relised I don't like 4 banger fwd's and the g bodys where the newest rwd v8 performance cars that arnt a f body or Corvette. I don't like streamlined cars, I like corners and things shaped like bricks

I have always been a fan of muscle cars, I was born to turn wrenches and fell in love with G-bodys when my aunt bought a 83' regal burgandy on burgandy (that car was soooooo clean I couldnt help but fall in love) after that my uncle bought a El, then he turned it out. Then my neighbor bought one and turned it out, these vehicles probably have the longest reach of any, forget about chevelles and novas (even though I have wet dreams about 70 SS 454 LS6's) and have owned three nova's. I love my Calais hands down, Long live the G-body.

Born into it my Dad only drove Oldsmobiles from 1964 to 2005.He would still be driving a Oldsmobile if they would not of closed down the div. I always liked the G body Cutlass body line and look forward to restoring the one I own.

The Look, The Sound! Back in school, class of 97. G-Bodies were everywhere, Cutlass's, Monte's, Regal's, not too many of SS's, GN's or 442's but they were around too. My first car was a 79 cutlass w/ a 260 olds, nice car, but the floor was rotted, from being a Mi. car, so on the way home one day the carpet above the catalytic converter caught on fire! Thank God for a 2-Liter of Mt. Dew to put out the fire! Made it home, shoved some sheet metal between the floor and the cat, and continued to drive it a few months. That one I sold to my cousin who never registered it, drove it another two years before abandoning it roadside. The Local Police called me up to see if I wanted to come get my car, I was like :wtf: I sold that years ago. Thats how i found out he never registered it. That G-body went to the scrapper, In the meantime, I'd picked up another 79 cutlass, A nice Southern body, a 3.8 liter w/next to no oil pressure. Swapped in a 350 and it was on! Lost my license twice with this set up, for speeding of course! Then I put in 4:10 gears you know to slow me down. Ya! With about 2-3 days left on a restricted license got popped for speeding again. Lost it for another 6 months..... During that time me and my ex brother in law worked at Discount Tire, I used to let him drive it on my days off.........Not Good, b*st*rd brought it home sounding like a helicopter taking flight! That was July 1998, the car sat for the next 8 years, was in the process of putting in a 383 stroker in it, the engine was there just needed some acces. Then i got divoriced....Got the car back with no engine  but hey my ex had replaced that windshield she broke, the expensive one with the antenna built in! 😀 So now this Cutlass needs an engine, whatever should I do? 468 Accel Super Ram EFI, Yup, problem solved! This is my baby, still waiting on paint. Most recently A year ago picked up an 86SS, Driving it daily!

Right car, right place, right time for me.
I have owned American cars from 1990 until 2001, then I hit hard times and went without until I was back on my feet. In 2004 I went to an American car show in England looking to buy another, there were plenty of cars for sale out of my reach like 'mint fins'n'chrome Cadillacs, Mopar muscle cars and similar high price cars, but there was a somewhat shabby '79 v6 Buick Century wagon that I made a deal on for £400 ($600). I went to the same venue later in the same year and a guy was checking out my car and ignoring my buddies '59 Cadillac. I talked with him and he told me he had a car like mine he no longer wanted and was asking £150 ($225) for it. I agreed to buy it on the spot figuring it would be a parts car or I could make one good car from the two.
It was an '83 Cutlass wagon in much better shape than the Century and had a 307 under the hood as well. I ended up keeping both cars until terminal rust claimed the Century in 2008, and sold the Cutlass last year.
Both cars were very reliable, the Century needed the brakes overhauled when I bought it, other than that the tilt steering worked loose and the clock burnt itself out (frightening at 70 mph on a busy freeway at night!), and the fuel tank developed a leak. The Cutlass needed some new brake pipes and a windshield, nothing went wrong mechanically.

I wish I'd never sold the Cutlass, if another G body come up at the right price again I shall be happy to own another one.

Roger.
