MALIBU What's going on G-Body peeps? I recently bought an 83' Malibu CL Wagon.

That's a slick wagon, I like it!

In the past, on both my wagon and my El Camino, I've had the same issue with wipers. The El Camino was cured when I replaced the ground strap with a 12ga piece of ground wire - no problem since. The wagon would do Just as yours is doing, so I replace the ground. That worked fine until the last leg of a recent trip I took. Just like you it gave up, in the rain, at night and on the interstate. When I got back I checked everything out, but could only get it to operate at normal speed for 10-15secs at a time - no high speed and no pulse. I just replaced the whole thing, now all is well (plus a new motor is really much more quiet).

Jack is right about the vent, I had your issue myself and was very worried about the seal, because there are no more. I took mine out - very carefully - greased it up so that it would just barely move. When I got it back in I pulled it tightly closed...and keep a bat in the car for anyone who might attempt to open it!
Bat the piss outta them if they touch that vent! I fixed the wiper problem. The ground strap was not even connected. The the red power wire coming out of the wiper motor was spliced. I unraveled the electrical tape and found wires twisted together that still had spade connectors on each end. I cut the connectors off , soldered and heat shrinked the wire. Connected the ground strap and put ring terminals on a 14 gauge wire and ran a ground from one of the bottom wiper motor bolts to the firewall motor ground strap location. They work like a charm now.

It's in very good shape for a 37 year old vehicle. Solid metal everywhere. Original interior is in great condition save the two cracks in the dash. It has a non stock 350, 350 transmission with a mild shift kit. A solid wagon overall. A few problems I want to address first. First is the wipers. The car is a Florida car and has been in Florida it's entire life. I picked it up from Central Florida and on the drive back the wipers quit working. In the rain. At night. On the interstate. That was not fun. At first it was intermittent. They would swipe for a little then stop , usually straight up and down. I would roll the switch back and forth and they would start again. Did this for a while then they just started one swipe and stop. The switch rolling was not working anymore. If they stopped while up I would roll the window down to reach out and push start them. They would swipe once or twice and stop again. I did this for miles . Finally got her home and covered her up because I have no garage to park in. Which brings me to my next problem. The rear passenger vent window does not close, lock and seal properly so rain will get in. Quite a bit of rain. The man I bought it from kept it in his garage so it never was soaked out. Not a hint of water damage or smell in the cab anywhere.

But I love it and plan on upgrading fully. Any help on repairing the rear vent window and my Wipers problem would be appreciated. View attachment 136954View attachment 136955View attachment 136956

Cool, What are your plans with it? All I need is the passenger side vent window assembly. If you come across one let me know LOL.

Good luck! You might consider finding rear doors from a Malibu sedan. (fronts are the same for both models) The one drawback about using them is that the window frames are shaped differently and would need to be swapped out with the wagon window frames. The doors themselves are identical.
Your chances of finding sedan doors are better than finding wagon (rear) doors. Try http://www.car-part.com/
