Which is better, X pipe or H pipe?

If it was me I would go with the X pipe. whether it makes power or not (I think it does) it definitely wont hurt power.

This thread is making me think about the Summit or Jeg's stainless kit to replace the POS Pypes kit. Sad thing is the X-pipe is one of the better bent parts of the kit.

NASCAR runs an X pipe, they wouldn’t do it, if it wasn’t better.

in our sportsman circle track series we could run any configuration of exhaust, we extensively test the X, H and straight through. There was no difference whatsoever with the lap times

Engine Masters proved that with the only variable in the entire setup being the X/H/straight pipes, the X made more power. Probably not enough to feel but power is power.

As I have a Pypes x pipe 2.5 exhaust on my 84 231 v6, I will say go with the H if it's going to lower the tone. The kit I got came with the the Street pros I think and it was way too high pitch and raspy. I eventually replaced the mufflers with a set of dynamax turbo mufflers. I still wish it was a little lower in tone.

How does that sounds??? I watched a video online of an Pontiac LJ with the 231 V6 and man that sounded good!

FWIW my Howard’s Solid lifter cam instructions stated an exhaust without either will provide the best sounding rough idle.
