Sellers offering drop spindles for the G-body, all insist these spindles are for 80-88, only.
In an attempt to discover why, I conducted research and found all relevant parts (ball joints, inner tie-rods, rotors, calipers) seem be interchangeable through the years.
So, what would I have to change in order to get the drop spindles to fit my '78?

You can, just need new rotors. I forget wiether it is the inner or outer bearing which has a different diameter (smaller) then the later cars. Just use post 80 rotors and bearings and you should be good.

it's the outer bearings that are smaller. I had some of the smaller dia spindles on the frame I picked up and it was supposedly from a 80 regal.
