Why do people do this

What are spare Q-jets going for nowadays? I finally found an older, non-electronic Quadrajet. I'm gonna give rebuilding a try.
As cores I sell em for like 50 bucks. If it's really clean I might up it a little. Crappy, down a little. Normal is 50 for me. I charge 200 to rebuild, rebush, and replace and epoxy well plugs. It sounds high, but I use that money to buy parts. Whatever is left is my profit. Normally it's no more than 70$. It's a pretty lucrative business sometimes, especially during the summer months. Kind of slowing down now, but I used to get 2 or 3 a month to do. Qjets are as simple as can be. Just take lots of pictures. Hardest thing will be getting the power piston in without bending/breaking the rods. I've done enough where I can get it by feel, but it still takes a while.

On the other hand NOS qjets I've seen as high as 800 (rare pontiac super duty quadrajet, NOS 1974 GSX Apollo 350 carb, etc) , which makes sense. Basically new.

If you want my opinion.... A lot of people are no-good, useless bastards. And that's about as politely as I can put it. My actual opinion is a lot more vulgar. They don't have any respect for other people's time. As for why they do it, I have no idea. From what I've seen and read though, you can pretty much expect that kind of stuff when dealing with people on Craigslist. There's a recent thread about it on here.

You're not alone in this experience.

Hate to say it but over the past 10 years I have come to a similar conclusion. There are plenty of good honest people out there, but when selling something it seems none of them read the ads. Society has generated the belief that "my" time is more important then anyone else's. Plus add a sense of entitlement and you have some "really great guys and girls" out there. Holy crap! And these types show up when selling and turn what should be a smooth transaction into a frustrating nightmare.

Way I look at it is that person not showing is a sign and it was not suppose to happen. Plenty of people are out there and you will find someone that will not give you any grief. Just be patient and not let the jerks ruin your sale.

As a side note of dealing with idiots, my Niece was given a few pieces of new furniture for her wedding aniversary and decided to basically give away her other furniture that was a few years old to help someone else out.

Put them on Craigslist and one a$$hole after another just busted her butt. " It is too small, does it come with throw pillows, can you deliver, i am not sure I can fit them in my apartment, and so on. My Niece was selling $6-700 worth of furniture in nearly new shape (no pets or kids) for under $100 and she could not believe all the jerks that had one opinion or issue after another. They had no intention to buy, just waste my niece's time. She got so fed up she basically gave up and told others it was sold. She eventually donated them to Goodwill and was never dealing with Craigslist ever again to sell.

It's not like they'd fly off the shelf. In my experience it's really only BOP guys that want em. Chevy guys could give a sh*t less. But the people that want em will pay for em. I was on a kick of building the carbs I had amassed over the years, but they just didn't sell for what would've been profitable. I just keep the cores and build em to order. I have a couple ads on my CL, and by word of mouth is how I get most of my customers.

Next time make it clear that you need to have contact with the buyer as you both are leaving to meet up, or you won't be there. I always contact sellers that day and as I'm leaving just to avoid such a thing.

The problem we have is "we are in an entitlement society"
Come to my world and see what I see
We are pretty much ******! as sad as I see it
I am dealing with a court deposition tomorrow. 2 claims, 4 lawsuits.
Wish me well guys as I am wearing the white hat and riding the high road in my El Camino

My brother-in-law had a standing request for me to keep an eye out for a set of <'96 F250 rims. I had to back out on a deal I made over the phone on some rims when I finally found him a nice set on CL. He decided to go to dualies instead. I offered the seller 10% of his asking price as an 'I'm sorry' for wasting two weeks of exposure. He did not reply, but I feel like I at least offered.
