Why everyone is putting Chevy's in the off brands!

I would not change a thing with my combination. I have no regrets, but then again I didn't do it for only cost reasons.

Why is it that all of you guys with the BOP power seem so arogant, like you the king sh*t because you use BOP power. Asking if we would do it different if we had the choice. For every Chevy powered car where the owner would change their mind there is likely a BOP guy that would change his mind too. The guy who realizes that he spent 2x the $ for about the same power, or realizes that his car handles worse with that giant chunk of iron under the hood making the same power as my SBC.

People on this site need to remember, we build these cars to taste. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If I had a classic BOP it would have BOP power for sure, but how can I pull the original Chevy motor from my Pontiac and replace it with an older Pontiac motor that was not even offered when my car was built and then take on sume riteous attitude like my car is better because it is now somehow more original.

Why am I going the Chevy route? hmm let see because my car is a daily driver and putting a brand new motor with brand new everything seems the best way to go for me with this car. And the engine is coming from GM with a 3yr 100k mile warranty on it. That means if anything goes wrong with it I just pull the car up to the dealer and tell them to fix it. I was going to build a motor for the car and I have a 70' 350 LT1 vette engine that i was going to be build for it. But for the cost which would only be a couple hundred cheaper to build then to buy it made more sense to buy. I am not looking to build a carshow queen out of the car. It's not a track wh*re it's a daily driver. And for around $3500 with everything new I can't beat it. It does have around 350hp and around 400 lbs of tq. So it won't be a slouch. It won't be the fastest thing out there but it will be a nice crusier. Which Is why I bought the car in the first place.

You seem pissed that people are using BOP power rather than Chevy power. I have an Olds engine because I had this engine from my Old 77 Cutlass and it was rebuilt then. Prove nrunner. Now it is going in my 79. I have nothing against Chevy engines, in a Chevy, or if it came originally in the car. My car came Olds and will die with an Olds between the framerails.Nothin arrogant about it, just different. Too many people use the Chevy blcok and I don't like teh cookie cutter thing at all, way overdone. Yes, the Chevy engine came a dime a dozen in the cheaper brand cars, so it is always going to be cheaper tobuild. That doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out. Like teh Montgomery Gentry song says- You do your thing, I'll do mine.

Whoa!! If you all can't handle a simple discussion about this then don't speak on it! I never fronted like I am king ish so don't take it there. If you breath the same air I breath how can I be king ish?! Did you read my initial post? I don't have nothing against Chevy in the first place I was around bowties all my life! I know about Don Yenko, Dick Harrell, Baldwin-Motion, the COPO cars, the "mystery" Big Block Chevy basically I have a great deal of knowledge about Chevys. But, since I don't have a Monte Carlo, Camaro, Nova, Vette or any other cars in their lineup, I am not going to drop a bowtie between my fraimrails! Do your thing & yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder so its no reason to start snapping over a DISCUSSION! I am something called a purist ever heard of that?! However, GM held back a couple of cars that can seriously compete with Chevys Fords & Dodges like the '67 Hurst Olds. Yes a '67 Hurst Olds it was a prototype that had the underrated 425 horsepower 455 Toronado engine in it with bench seats some had 400's trannies some had 4 speeds. Then went ahead & made the 455 390 horsepower when it debut for the 1968 model year which only made 515 of them.

First I am not pissed about anything anyone does with their own cars other then letting them sit and rot. I appreciate many different ideas, and approaches. Also, TeamBOP I actually like your discussion and did not mean to take it too far with my response. My comments were not actually directed at any one person. I just do not appreciate "cookie cutter" comments and the attitude that anyone using a chevy is cheap or lazy.

There is nothing "cookie cutter" or lazy about my car or many of the Chevy Powered G's on here. I like the idea of the original posts, but read back many of you BOP guys come acrossed as if you are talking down to the rest of us (probably by accident), with statements about dime a dozen, or cookie cutter, etc. Remember their are more ways to build an SBC then there are to skin a cat. I came up with my own combination, built it myself, and have never seen another with the same combination of parts. I am not criticizing anyone for using BOP, just make sure you can say the same to us guys with SBC. If all of our cars had BOP, yours would not be as cool (and mine might not be as fast - really sorry I had to, it just fit too well).

Ok cool! Yeah other guys on here was talking down about the swap true enough but some was talking down on bop powered cars as well. I had to check myself too! Stoopud, I respect that your building your gbody with your own vision instead of dropping major cash on crates engines & body work I salute that. I just wanted to dig a lil deeper with the bowtie swaps, in general, that I see not only on this site but local shows here in St. Louis as well. I did say it was cheap for a SBC but BBC arent cheap to put together. My old man told me he spend almost $2000 on his cylinder headwork to flow to his liking for his race bred 468 BBC & that was back in '84! I think it was a good discussion as well.

I just can't stand the "if you don't drive a (fill in the blank), you ain't sh*t" attitude.

When Chevy used the Cadillac OHV design on thier new sb in 55, they came up with a good package.

Besides being a decent package, Chevys were/are cheap. They are the bottom rung of the GM family (fact, not a slam) so more people bought them. Thus more people worked on them, hot rodded them etc etc.
I still don't think they are "the best", nor do I think Pontiac is, or Olds........

I had diehard Chevy guy working for me and he was so narrowminded when it came to other cars. He used chevy "terms" to desribe everything,if it was not the same way as chevy it was wrong and tried to apply chevy tech to everything."just put some flat tops in it", " camel hump" etc etc.

We pulled a used Pontiac 400 out of a big car, did a cam swap, headers and 4 barrel and stuck it in a 70 Tempest. I let him test drive it and he was blown away by the low rpm torque and how it pulled to 6k.Could not believe it was a used engine.

I like all cars when tastefully done. I can even handle thier owners up to the point of when they are blinded by thier brand loyality.

I wish GM would've been more complex rather than catering to one brand. After the corporate powered cars in the 80's that's when things went downhill imo. True its all under one brand but, each brand has its own things to bring to the table. Now no one can't lie, if you pick up a GM Performance catalog what y'all mainly see parts for?? Chevy! Very little for Pontiac, a freaking DRC block for Olds. I don't want all that engine lol! I want to still drive it on the street & strip not lose about 10 gallons of gas just backing my car out of my driveway to the mailbox lol! It ate me up when they close the doors on olds back in '04. Then Pontiac, argubaly the creater of the muscle car! Trying to make the new goats compete with the BMW's?! What the hell! Goats were made for tearing up the strips not cornering! It's no more car ppl in GM what a shame for a legendary brand.

I know someone like that. We were talking about our cars, my Cutlass and his Camaro, and he was wondering what engine I was using. When I told him it was an Olds 350, he says, "why didn't you just use a Chevy? They are so much better" I told him too f-off, he has never touched an Olds so he can't say that Chevy is better. I told him that once I am not poor and build my hopefully fuel injected n/a 455, I will give his 454 Camaro a nice challenge

I get pissed because of how closed minded some people are.

By the way, Olds finally has an aftermarket fuel injection system available!!! 😀
