Why swap to a hub assembly...?

I sold my drop spindles to go for this set-up. My reasoning is wanting the dual-piston, aluminum calipers and rotors that I can change without re-packing bearings or changing wheel seals. I would've had to buy the newer style bearings to use the drop spindles anyway since mine are the old, smaller style. On another note, I'm a broke hot-rodder and these factory-type budget swaps just interest me (hydroboost is another one!).

I like using factory parts to upgrade my ride and the doing it on budget is even better, I didn't like the idea of cutting and modifying the factory g body spindle. The spindle also makes it hard for center caps to fit right on some wheels.

I stay away from anything that's sealed and you can't grease it. I've had wheel bearings in a car for hundreds of thousands of miles and they looked new and one reason for that is I'm able to be able to clean, inspect them and repack them when I'm doing a brake job. As for hubs google this..GM hub complaints

you can get the blazer sealed hub wheel bearings a lot cheaper from am-autoparts, they have them for $44.90 each.

Wonder what type of quality those are :?:

I don't see why you would have to change the spindle for the 1LE upgrade. They both use the same inner bearing and wheel seal. The outer bearing is a different bearing, but it is the same inside diameter. So it would fit the spindle  The only difference in the rotors, other than that, is the "hub" height:
1LE - 4.63"
82-88 GBody - 4.31"

for prices the 2nd gen camaro spindles were $25 each, the new rotor was $45 each, rebuilt callipers were $28 each the upper control arms were $120 and the EBC pads were $95...totals a little over 400 and all the parts except for the spindles are available from any retail store.

I am using 13.4" Corvette C6 Z51 rotors, with z06 calipers, using the blazer spindles/hubs were cost effective for what I wanted to do, saved me tons of money! I think this is in a league above the 2nd gen camaro set up you mention...

as far as spending $400 on 2nd gen spindle stuff, It would be more cost effective to just spend $210 on a complete upgrade with dual piston calipers that just bolts right on (without having to change arms, etc)...

and again, you can take the entire blazer spindle/hub/rotors/calipers/etc and just put it on for an upgrade and your looking at around $210

one of the problems with the camaro spindles is that they make bad geometry even worse. at least with the blazer spindles you can still get the SC&C stage 2 kit. plus no mods necessary for a pretty good brake upgrade. and IIRC the kore3 kit to upgrade to corvette drinks doesn't require cutting ears off.

oh and my understanding is that you can get the SK heavy duty bearings which are MUCH better than GM/OEM. hub bearings are a great idea, but they must be made right--look at VW, me/be, BMW, ferrari, etc. they all use hub bearings without issue, for over 100,000mi.

well let me know when you have to change out the hubs....GM is well known for their problems with their hubs and I would never trust those hubs that are $44. You'll also notice that the prices I included were new parts and the brakes were close to $100 by themselves. If I chose to go after used parts and cheap pads it would have been under $200 but with the set up I have and the tires it's a very quick and controlled stop and it has saved me from having to repair the body. It's not just the size of the rotor and the number of pistons in the callipers and it's not all guess work...
