MALIBU Widest rear tires

I had 275/60-15s on a 79 Malibu on GM Corvette (8") rally wheels that were OK.

With a 4.5" backspace and a 245, tire sidewall was about 1/4" from rubbing on the inside.

Current 81 Malibu coupe has 255/60-15s on 15x8 Weld ProStars, no rubbing, but don't remember the backspace.

Something to think about on some of these cars is that the Monte, Regals, and some of the others have a rounder wheel opening, which will be less likely to rub the outside compared to the Malibu's more "flat-top" wheelwell.

Generally 4" b.s. for the pro stars.

I've never been able to fit more than a 255 on my Malibu without rubbing until I notched the frame.... now a 275 clears with no issue, and I could go a tick bigger, 285 or possibly 295
