im not gonna start bashing

anyone on here, but back in the day France was the sh*t. I studied their history last year in my 300 level class. At one time they were the most powerful country in the world right behind alexander the great and the Roman Empire. It was not until the fall of Napoleon that they fell from grace. I wont lecture everyone on here but haa its funny to understand why the French are pissed off people. They used to be the best now they are 5th-6th in terms of world power any web site will tell us that. Now to correct someones statement. The French for the most part were actually the ones who won WWI thats the problem with us Americans we think we won that war, France lost more men in WWI and WWII then all the other country, im not counting Polland because they were not really involved as much as the big 5. But anyway I get a bit pissed when I see people talking sh*t about my fav. nation in the world other then US. But I read that sh*t too about hte particle excelerator. They say it was a complete success I guess.

Agree.
A lot of Americans seem to forget that Canada and many other countries also helped win the war(s)

They also seem to forget about the help from France in the revolutionary war I think it was.

Correct me if I`m wrong but I think all this hate the French BS started after they didn't back the U.S. going into Iraq along with most of the world. Now they are the but of a lot of jokes.

My Grandfather is buried in Normandy. His plane was shot down in WW2.

Naaah, the hate France thing has existed for a long time. Even in WWII, DeGaulle was rumored to have been trying to work a separate deal with the Germans while he was living in England! Churchill had to basically keep him under house arrest to keep him from double crossing the Allies. Most people hate the French because they are perceived as snotty and condescending. Even Al Bundy stated "Am I the only one here who hates the French?" in an episode of "Married With Children" in the mid 90's.

I'm Canadian.
We have put up with a lot of crap from the French in Canada.
The separatists have had multiple referendums (neverendums?) on Quebec sovereignty. They came very close once at destroying Canada as we know it.I don't see how one specific group gets to decide whether my country stays whole or not.Sovereignty association,ya....right.
If they ever have the gall (de Gaulle?) to hold another vote, the rest of Canada should hold a pre-emptive vote to decide whether or not we chuck the separatist bast*rds out.
Oh,as for the French in France, the US owes them BIG time for keeping the British preoccupied during the War of 1812.If the British weren't fighting the Napoleonic Wars at the time, the full weight of British power would have been dispatched to re-acquire the colonies. At that time, the US did not have the military might to defeat a fully engaged England.
As for my joke about the French and their tanks, well,it was funny.

Sorry for the brief thread hijack.......
We resume our previous broadcasting schedule......

The French have built things that are remarkable engineering accomplishments. Look at the Milau Bridge ( Which was designed by the British), or the Citroen 2CV, a car so uniquely French, that only a Frenchman, or somebody REALLY poor would ever drive one.

As far as the American Revolution and the War of 1812 goes, we have more than paid them back. If it were not for us, they would be drinking beer and eating bratwurst in Paris instead of wine and cheese. Not once, but twice we had to save them from the Germans.

The Soviets lost more men over the course of WWI & WWII. Give me one thing that France has to be proud of? They back out of everything they start. Great examples of their failed Imperalism is the Panama Canal, and Vietnam. Where France fails the United States backs them up, usually costing us.

Yup, most of our wars in the last century can be linked to bailing out failed French foreign policy or military ineptitude. Vietnam used to be called French Indochina. The French Revolution of 1789 was a cluster F**k of beheddings, the thought police, and Robespierre's arrogance and hatred of faith. The metric calender (10 day weeks)? That's from the French Revolution and a desire to eliminate Sunday. The Thought Police is not a modern invention, but rather it is from the French Revolution when these people would be sent to listen in on conversations in bread lines, etc. If anyone complained about waiting several hours for basic necessities, they were considered counter-revolutionaries and had their head removed in the next day's purges. So many people were killed by the guillotine during this time as to rival the German Holocaust. The French Revolution of 1789 represented one of the largest mass killings that any nation has ever seen and deserves to be ranked up there with Stalin's purges in terms of the number of political murders.

did the french ever help us? hell yes, in the revolutionary war and in the war of 1812. actually in 1812 we were more of a help to the french than they were to us. france was fighting britain for years before they (france and britain) got us involved. (one way was kidnapping sailors off of our ships) we distracted britain enough for france to eek out a win. then came WW1 when france planted trees so the germans could march in the shade  everything was at a stalemate, then we came in. more by numbers than anything else, though we had some GREAT generals, we enabled the allies to launch a true offensive and break the german lines. then came WW2 where we truly did save france's *ss. and they still think we owe them. riiiiiiiight
then after WW2 de gaulle did everything he could to screw us over. and their gov't has continued the tradition. but the french people do remember our soldiers sacrifice in the war, sometimes better than we do.

A lot of Americans seem to forget that Canada and many other countries also helped win the war(s)
sadly most americans barely know that there WAS a WW2,those who know anything about it know that it was a WORLD war. and that many countries sent soldiers. though, IIRC canada sent most of her's to serve in the british army.
