sorry

goof ball my knowledge of WWI is perfectly fine what have I said that is any way false. Socialism is working in Europe, I talk to people all the time from France and England. They are doing a lot better then were are in our own country. Crime is lower on every respect. I really dont know what your looking for me to say?? We as a country are also moving towards socialism so I guess you cutting me down is pretty stupid on your behalf too. I guess you better move along with your friends in this forum. Anyone who says im wrong needs to turn on the news. Universal Healthcare anyone, gay rights, illegal immigration. Some of you better hit up wikipedia and read the definition of what socialism is and what rights are given out by the gov of this nature. You guys are kicking your own asses at the moment.

socialism is basically where everything is owned by the people. funny, i don't remember owning any power plants, tele-com systems, or gov't buildings.
if your knowledge is fine then how come you don't know about isolationism or the Lusitania or the zimmerman telegram?
no, it's because we wanted to assert ourselves. right

If socialism is working so well in England, why is their health care system bankrupt? Why have they now decided that the state has the right to determine of caring for your health problem is too much of a burden on the state, so it would be better for all if you just died instead? Why is there such a stagnation in the European economy? Why does the lovely nation of France have higher unemployment than us? Why did they go through the 1990's with 10% unemployment if socialism is so wonderful for all? BTW, I too have taken college level history courses, and have since finished them. However, I never took what the professor told me as gospel just because it spewed forth from a PhD's mouth!

im drunk at the moment

but still sober enough to say where in any of my sentences and paragraphs did I ever mention socialism is better then or worse then any other type of gov. I said ours sucks is all. I also said we are moving towards that type of gov which also sucks. Ill admit modern day european nations are really messing up in all honesty all nations are! We are all getting hit hard dudes. But again I believe and will stick to it that European nations have accomplished far more then the U.S has, they are simply older then us and no way we can get around that. Sorry to start an argument. 😀

did the french ever help us? hell yes, in the revolutionary war and in the war of 1812. actually in 1812 we were more of a help to the french than they were to us. france was fighting britain for years before they (france and britain) got us involved. (one way was kidnapping sailors off of our ships) we distracted britain enough for france to eek out a win. then came WW1 when france planted trees so the germans could march in the shade  everything was at a stalemate, then we came in. more by numbers than anything else, though we had some GREAT generals, we enabled the allies to launch a true offensive and break the german lines. then came WW2 where we truly did save france's *ss. and they still think we owe them. riiiiiiiight
then after WW2 de gaulle did everything he could to screw us over. and their gov't has continued the tradition. but the french people do remember our soldiers sacrifice in the war, sometimes better than we do.

My grandfather flew bombers in World War II. His B-24 was shot down over occupied France.

The French Underground found them right before the Germans did. Several French died getting them out of there. The Underground eventually smuggled them back to England.

The French political machine may leave a bit to be desired. People like to talk about how France rolled over and surrendered in WWII... and while it may be true that the government surrendered, the people never did. That's enough for me.

People also like to think the French are snotty. Has anyone here been to France? Yeah, the French are snotty if you come in there expecting everyone to speak English. If you go there with no appreciation or respect for the culture. I imagine that plenty of Americans are the same way... someone comes up to you speaking something other than English, you're likely to shrug and walk away. At least, some of us.

I can't speak French, but when I was in France, I tried. Just the fact that I tried was enough, and I didn't find anybody to be snotty at all. Some of my classmates, who didn't give any effort, had a different experience.

actually the US is older than modern france. we're the only ones to have kept the same form of gov't for the last 232 years.

Er... precisely what about our current government is the same as it was 232 years ago? Okay, it's a "representative democracy" and all that, but the simple matter of scale has forced the government of the US to adapt and change over the years. The government from 1790 or even 1890 would be hard pressed to manage this nation now.

AJH

Sadly, we have way too much government now. However, we are still governed on the same principles that Thomas Jefferson put to paper in 1789, and the same document. It has been amended over the years, but it is still fundamentally the same. The biggest problem has been liberal Supreme Court justices who have used the Interstate Commerce Clause to justify damn near anything and run rip shod over States Rights.

i never said that none of the french fought. i just said that we saved their *ss. i know about the underground and their effectiveness at getting people in and out.
if you want to get really nitpicky our gov't changes every 4 years. but we have had a senate, house of reps, supreme court, and president for over 200yrs. at the time france had a monarchy.

You have to remember that France went back to a dictatorship after the 1789 revolution with Napoleon too. The United States has been far more stable than other countries. Plus, old age does not mean all that much. Most of our current society and culture stems from the developments of the last roughly 100 years, not the preceding 1,000. In that regard the United States has done more to change the world technologically than any other nation. We were pioneering democracy while most of the world still believed in " The Divine Rights of Kings". Also, while our minor territories may have been invaded, none of our states have been occupied since 1812. Compared to any European nation save Great Britain, we have far more stable territorial borders.
