Windshield, beating a dead horse

**** you then blake. We both know the windshield is thicker than the other windows and you disagree with some other post I made in a different thread. Maybe you should review what Dave Chappelle said on similar subject matter about 'the club' from that thread, after his wierd 'visit' to Africa. You don't deserve to have Tyrone the crackhead as your avatar until you do. You thought you were going to dip out of the club thread and make me sound stupid over a windshield but not today. I threw a brick at a stock windshield and it didn't break try that with a 'safelite', Fools

Despite 565's good experience, I will stand by my statement in another thread that Safelite is the absolute WORST outfit for glass.
I guess it depends on the installers and where you live but both of the guys that did my cars where experienced with our cars, the first one gave me a nice used rearview mirror that fit the new mount and the second got money off approved to go towards buying a new mirror.
Regardless of who installs the windshield New is the only way to go in my opinion.

I live in a one horse town. One glass shop. I have to say they did their best to get a glass for my wagon. Just can't believe 2 months. When I went to get the car the trim around the windshield was not installed, nor was the rear view mirror. When I questioned it I was told there wasn't any trim on it when it came it. I reminded them the car came in to have the glass changed out 2 month ago with the trim and all the part installed. I was told it wasn't on when it came in. Never mind. I'll put the trim and mirror back on. Won't go back.

I had a window installed at a Safelite shop in Albuquerque. While I'm not driving it around yet, it has survived the thermal cycle of a summer and a winter. No leaks. I brought a bag of new trim clips with me and they knew what to do with them and the trim looks as good as when I brought it into them. They even did a little rust treatment on the firewall where the old 'cinderblocked' glass had been starting to leak, at no extra charge.
I'll give an update when I have this on the road again, but I agree with 565bbchevy, it sure is nice to look through a crystal-clear windshield again, rather than a spider web.

Hmm, the new windshield I got in April had the correct mirror mounting tab on it...

When I was in school, we were taught that if the tab was incorrect to just re-glue the original on top of the new one.
Cheaper than buying a new mirror...

The new mirror was under $15 so I would rather spend that and mount it to a factory windshield tab rather than glue another tab on top and have my mirror stick out away from the windshield, I was told these windshields were used well into the 90's on other GM vehicles which is why they have the later mounting tab.
I also like the later mounting tab since it opens up more options for the abundance of late model mirrors with lights and other features..

Nothing like looking through a brand new windshield in a 30+ year old car.

I gotta agree with 565 on this.
I had the local Speedy Auto Glass replace my original leaking windshield a couple of years ago.
I don't know where it was manufactured,but I couldn't believe the difference.
It sure was nice to look through a brand new windshield.
It was a perfect installation and leak free. They cleaned all the surface rust, primed and sealed it before putting the new one in.

My new windshield installation went without a hitch. I got a USA made PPG windshield...which I think was new old stock. The same glass shop replaced my previous windshield about 5-6 yrs prior also using a PPG product. They have an excellent reputation and have been in business for many years, and that's why I chose to use their services again. They also glued in my quarter windows and put all the trim back. I essentially brought the car to them with the glass removed, all channels were freshly painted and new clips installed. I got the car back the following day and was extremely satisfied.
