well, with 882s and stock pistons, your compression ratio would come out to 7.86. Your engine stock had 8.5 to 1. With 416s youd be on the edge of pump gas and would have to run prenium or some how tune the engine to 89 the compression would be 10:1. With a 64cc chamber like a vortec head youd have a good compression ratio of 9.2, I dont know what your plans with engine are, but you have a couple options, run 882s with a really low crappy compression or change the pistons to bring it back to stock, get 305 heads that bring compression up to the edge or change the pistons to get a good 9.0 or something around there, or get a 64cc chamber and not change your pistons or go through rebalencing, taking the engine out, (if its not already)...

or another choice might be to find a 307, 327, or 350 head like yours again

Theres so many choices you could also shave the heads lol. You have to use your budget and when you need it done and so much since I know neither

327's arent a good choice... they'll make compression way too high without much performance gain. I'd say no on the 307 heads also

from what i know the heads were not very good and the motor is rated at 200 hp. id like to get 250-275 hp but i dont wanna have to tear apart the block. if i have to start tearing the engine apart im just gonna have to find a 350 on the internet and try selling the block to someone whos looking to build a #'s matching camaro. i dunno, i just wanna get this thing running before the end of the summer, so i can finnally drive it.

wait why arent the 327s or 307s good. there the same head he had on there. And if the other 327 head is a double hump which has around a 64cc chamber which will put his compression at 9.2. I mean I know the stock 307 and 327 non double hump arent anything to brag about but they'll give him what he needs it for.. Am I missing something lol? :?:

well if you can get a good 350 I would do that. Theres not really any good stock head out there. I think the level you want would be attainable with a stock head though. But after all the money goes into the engine you could have a 350, transfer your current parts like the intake carb and headers and make 275 easy. Most likely the 350 will have 882 heads but thats ok for that motor. And the good thing is, is that since you have a limited budget, once you save up and want more power you have the 350 there for your need for speed. Just slap some vortecs on there one day and you'll be very happy with it.

buying better gas i dont think should be a problem, i was filling it with midgrade since i bought it. if i got the 416, whats the compression like and do they flow good? also would i have to change the pushrod size, i do need new ones but if i would have to change them, i wouldnt know where to start to find the right sized ones.
