thanx fellas! well the past 2 days i been just driving the elky around, no place to go, just drive. then the other day i noticed it getting hot, so i pulled over and it was the connectors to the electric fan were kinda touching so i wiggled it asd then it was fine for a while. then yesterday i bought a 60 buck cd player from walmart and installed it the elky and now i got some tunes, YAY! so then today i had an interview at a new job and drove the elky. after i went to the local yard to get a cs144 alternader and found one inna caddy, bit it had these weird 3 prongs sticking out the back. well i bought it for 40 bucks and as im leaving i hear this weird rattling noise and i know exactly what it is, the damn alternader pully. so i stop about a block away from the yard and pull off the alternader and try to tighten the nut , but the damn thing is stuck, so i werk it back and forth for a while and then get it off. turns out that the damn threads on the nut were stripped and the shaft was ****ed. so after 1/2 an hour of fiddling with it i walk back the the yard ask if i can exchange both the alternaders for a nother one like what i took off my elky. so then aftyer another 1/2 hour of looking throught there inventory i find one, but it has the v-belt pully, so me and the son of the owner swap out the pully and then i walk back to the elky a block away and install the alternader and then realise i cant get to the battery hook up, so off comes the alternader, and then some wire re-routing, and back goes on the 'nader. now i dont even know if the one i found werks or not, so i limp the elky home, thinking that this 'nader is crap but at least the belt wont fall off again. so i get home and then decide to test it and it seems to be charging. so far so good. oh and the alternader for my car isnt from a 78 el camino, its from a 89 caprice. man, if i could find the PO of this elky id punch him right in the nose. :x

So the alternator you pulled from the yard has more amps CS144? and should fit GBODYS? or do you need to make some mods...And what kinda ride does it come off of?

i was thinking of pulling a alternator too from the yard that has more amps, so when install my system it will pick up good...

I had the same problem with the elko i had, and it was a 100amp alternator too....post a pics if u can so i can see what it looks like...i have normal v belt set up...thanks

If the Caddy Alternator looks like this on the back be sure you insulate the large terminals on the back. They supply unregulated 3 phase voltage for the windshield heater on the Cadillac. If anything arcs off them you could have a fire.
I would see if you could exchange it for a regular CS144. Just a heads up 8)

thanx tc, i was gonna paint them with liquid electric tape so it wouldnt do anything. but now that i think about it i could make a dam out of tape, and then fill it with jb weld so it would be completely covered and i wouldnt have to worry about it...unless jb weld is a conductor...then, whoops! 🙂

oh almost forgot, i was driving the elky around today before werk and i went to autozone to check the alternader to see if it was good, but the machine wouldnt test the alternader unless the battery was good, but the connections were not good so it didnt werk. so the i noticed a lil puddle under the car and saw that the waterpump was leaking onto the crank pully. yay, more stuff to fix...
