Pretty snappy Jack!

How much extra carpet did you buy?

Does the rear seat carpet go all the way up the area behind the rear seat?

Did the red interior cars have black belt buckles or is that your personal touch?

Looks good dude, wish I was cutting carpet. ...

     🙂 Scott. ...

Hey, thanks Scott!
I didn't buy extra carpet at this time, but it's on the list. I need extra for the cargo deck area and the door panel inserts.

The carpet goes over the rear foot well bulkhead and is kinda cut in a large U-shape. I will take a pic of it tomorrow to show you what I mean. It doesn't seem to lay down properly in that area, perhaps when you see what I'm talking about you can suggest something.

The seat belts were originally black with a red interior, so of course, I decided to retain the black belts.

Hey Jack,
Saw you went with the bonded logic sound deadening. Saw the shout out. How'd it work out for you? In my neck of the woods it's working great. No interior resonance, and the car stays nice and cool inside. Still get a little header heat but not bad at all. Everything's looking nice on your build. You just reminded me, I need sun visors still. Guess I need to get to ordering.

Thanks Mark,
and thanks again for your suggestion for using the Bonded Logic stuff. I'm pleased with it. I also picked up a good pair of shears as you also suggested..money well spent. I have a feeling that I'll be pleasantly surprised with the sound deadening quality and the thermal aspect of the product.

When you put down your carpet, how do you work the area under the rear seat bottom? The carpet doesn't seem to lay flat over the bulkhead where the seat bottom clips on.

Speaking of sunvisors, I will recover mine after I finish recovering the headliner. I'll have some extra fabric to play with.

Jack, you need to borrow Paul's dogs to lay your carpet properly.. 🙂

Steve,
I already mentioned that I should have taken him up on using his two assistants. Those are two beefy dogs.

Glad my advice worked out. What I did was heat the mass backed side with my heat gun and curl the way it needed to lay. When in place I lightly heated things with a heat gun and a clean dead blow was used to get the carpet to lay in the corners.

Did you put the bonded logic on the roof? The only place I haven't done in the passenger compartment is behind the dash or door panels. Still figuring out how Im going to do the doors but have been caught up driving it instead.

Mark,
Thanks man, that's great advise. I was hoping the heatgun trick would work. The massbacking is pretty stiff stuff. . I guess you also had to cut out openings for the seat bottom to latch on. Did you end up gluing those areas down?

Another question. Where the shoulder belts anchor down, did you just cut slits for the seat belt ends to pass thru? I got rid of my old carpet a while back and don't recall how certain things were cut and trimmed.

I did put the Bonded Logic on the roof as well. As for the door panels, I'm thinking of picking up another length of the sound deadening to replace the jute in back of the front door panels.
I replaced the paper moisture barrier with pieces of heavier mil plastic and used strip caulk to hold it down. The paper doesn't quite survive well over the years.

For the seat belts I got under the car and pushed an awl up through the hokes then used a razor knife to cut circles out. The seat studs I just pushed the carpet down hard and they popped through then I trimmed around them with a razor knife. As for the back seat clips/hooks I just cut a square out but my car per doesn't go back too far. Not sure how the wagons work.

Mark,
I forgot whether the shoulder belt mounting points bolted thru the carpet or under the carpet thru a slit in the carpet. I had already cut a hole thru the carpet for the bolts. I used my trusty Exacto knife...same with the seat studs. I guess I did it the right way... :?
As far as the back seat catches are concerned, it should probably be in the same position in all G-body cars, being that the floor pan configuration is the same.
Here's a few pics of the backseat area. The carpet needs to lay flatter around the top of the center hump. I don't know if you can notice it.

Yep looks exactly the same to me. I just cut the carpet to the highest ridge, the part where the seat clips are that way the carpet didn't have to curl back dow. I cut squares around the clips. The corner I curved to the quarters. Wish I took a pic but didnt. That red is sharp for sure

Thanks Mark,
I was thinking I'd have to make cuts on each side of the center hump in order to get the carpet to comply to the contour.
I originally thought of applying heat to the curves, but it might comply better once the cut outs are made for the lower seat catches.
