Quick question. Did you notch your frame? 285 on a 9.5 won't fit without it. Sorry if I'm adding to your worries lol. If you have the chance do it. You won't regret it.

I've seen minor rear clearance differences from G-Body to G-Body. My best advise...take loads of measurements, and cross reference tire/wheel size charts. To muddy the waters a bit, there are subtle size differences from brand to brand. I had an '87 Cutlass with BFGoodrich TA 295/60/15 as rear tires with no rubbing.

15's is a whole other story. He's looking for 18's.

I understand that sidewall flex is very different from 15 to 18 comparable tire. A 285/40/18 is very similar in size to a 295/50/15...the 15 is wider.

Use this site, and have a look.

Yeah, I know 285s will be tight . . .

After my last post, I ran across a set of "Michelin Pilot Super Sports" 245/40/18 which gets 9" to the ground up front and just 25.7" tall along with a 265/40/18 for the rear that gets 10.2 to the ground at 26.3" tall for only $640 after a $70 rebate. There are quite a few 275/40s that only get 9.5" to the ground. So, today, I contacted AZProPerformance to try to execute a buy on the wheels anyway . . . and now they are $4000.

:itchy:

This moving target nonsense with these wheels is just pathetic. Feeling a little like the dog named Stay [come here Stay, damn it Stay come here] but perhaps I am the first to actually buy a set so they just keep trying to suck more cash out of me. This started at $2400 two months ago.

I may buy the tires anyway . . . [as you probably know] Pilot Super Sports are the highest rated Max Perf Summer tire you can get. I wouldn't buy them at $1100, I'd get Nittos or BFGs or some Bridgestones S-04s or 960 Sports are priced pretty good with a rebate right now any of which would be good enough but Discount Tire apparently has some extra Michelin stock they need to move [if anyone else is looking too?].

BTW, I have since learned that you can get backspace clear down to 3.75" even on the 9.5" wheel so I think I would go with 3.75" up front on the 8s to get a little more exposed dish and 4.25" on the 9.5s in back to keep them off the frame.

Well, got a 2nd response already from AZProPerformance and they clarified that "no color - all polished" would just be $3200 to my door for 18s, $2800 for 17s. If I want them to apply their gold or mine => $800 more in both cases.

Still outrageous but better . . .

Now it depends on whether you're ready to pay for them or not. Maybe the first quote for 2400 was a mistake. If it's too steep in price I'd look for another wheel. I couldn't imagine myself driving a set of $4000 wheels down a dirty road, and every nick and scratch would cause so much guilt. But thats just me. If thats the wheel you absolutely must have, then save up and pay later. I doubt the price will go up.

And suddenly I am considering 17s in front 18s in rear . . . just for fun!

245/45/17s on 17x8s in front and 275/40/18s on 18x9.5s in back. Gives a 1" width and 1" diameter stagger and saves $200 on wheels + $100 on tires.

Apparently now that I am a serious buyer, suddenly MHT is willing to paint match my 442 gold on the wheels for the same price now. That translucent gold they show on the wheels or any other translucent color will still cost you $800 though.

So, [2] 17x8 with 3.75BS at $715 each plus [2] 18x9.5 with 4.25BS at $812 each.

Completely ridiculous on the one hand but should make for a damn nice look on my baby . . .

EDIT: Forgot the most important part. MHT agreed to paint match my spokes to 442 gold for that same $715 front, $812 rear price.

Came to terms with AZProPerformance on [2] 17x8 and [2] 18x9 Sabers. They need 1/2 down so going to wait a couple weeks to order since August is the infamous tags/taxes month in our household.

I called DiscountTireDirect about the Michelin Pilot Super Sports I want which are on sale now and they reserved the same price for me even though I won't be buying for probably 2 months. Since the 235/45/17 and 265/40/18 are normally almost $100 higher per tire, that was just kinda cool, I thought! No deposit required. Now, I have probably bought 6-7 sets of tires there in the last 10 years but they still didn't have to do that.

I reserved the 235/45 instead of the 245 because [on this tire] the 235 gets more actual tread down than the 245 does. And, this gives me 25.3 diameter up front and 26.3 in back.

Anxious to see this finally all come together . . . [not as much as we are dude!]

Just had the Pilot Super Sports on my car. Sticky tire but was down to the belts at <10k. Just a heads up.
