Yeah, thanks.

I know the perils of HP tires, but it is not a daily driver [at only 28K in 30 years] though I do intend to start getting some more miles on her now that I am retired after all the suspension and brake mods are done. Sticky tires do wear quickly though. I "hope" to drive to neighboring states 3 or 4 times a year, participate in a local show/meet, and get in some local auto-x or road course track time if they have one while there just for fun. Even if they are shot at 10K, they will probably last me 2 years.

And suddenly I am considering 17s in front 18s in rear . . . just for fun!

245/45/17s on 17x8s in front and 275/40/18s on 18x9.5s in back. Gives a 1" width and 1" diameter stagger and saves $200 on wheels + $100 on tires.

Apparently now that I am a serious buyer, suddenly MHT is willing to paint match my 442 gold on the wheels for the same price now. That translucent gold they show on the wheels or any other translucent color will still cost you $800 though.

So, [2] 17x8 with 3.75BS at $715 each plus [2] 18x9.5 with 4.25BS at $812 each.

Completely ridiculous on the one hand but should make for a damn nice look on my baby . . .

Just FYI, my backspace numbers were way off on this previous post. I had them written down right here but just posted wrong. Wanted to correct here for anyone that cares [??].

And, I am going to go 17x9 up front and just stick with 18x9 in back instead of 9.5. 255/40/17 front and 255/40/18 rear.

So, [2] 17x9 with 4.5BS at $715 each plus [2] 18x9 with 4.5BS at $812 each.

EDIT: BTW, these Bridgestone 255 tires get more tread to the pavement than the 265 Michelins I was going to get and for some reason the 245/45 Michelin tire I was going to put on the front only get 8" of tread down which I also didn't like. I am hopeful that going from 245/60/15 BFGs that I have in front now without rubbing that are 9.8 wide and 26.7" tall to these 255/40/17s that are 10.2" wide but only 25" tall should work. Should still have a nice 1" diameter stagger front to rear but will maintain the same tread width and the right 26" diameter rear for the speedo.

. . . unless I change my mind again tomorrow.

ARGH, I still didn't have the BS right above. I was thinking my factory wheels were 15x8 when I did the calculation [DUH!]. These 9" wheels will tolerate a full 5" BS. Just placing a bare wheel on the car, I have 1.7" between my 7s and the frame with their 4" BS.

So, didn't change my mind again, but just to correct the error [again] . . . 5.0" BS on these 9s will place the wheel almost exactly in the center of the fender well space.

[2] 17x9" with 5.0BS at $715 going with 255/40/17 Bridgestone S-04s, 25" diameter, 10.2" tire width, 9.2" tread on the pavement.
[2] 18x9" with 5.0BS at $812 going with 255/40/18 Bridgestone S-04s, 26" diameter, 10.2" tire width, 9.2" tread on the pavement.

Though I would prefer a little more sidewall, 45s on the front would probably require just 235 or maybe 245 width which are down in just the 8-8.5" of tread range and most 275s are only getting 9.5" of tread down so I think this is a good compromise. Would actually be more ideal to just go all 17s or all 18s for a 4 way rotate but I think the 1" back to front stagger is going to look better.

OK, now "hopefully" this is actually right . . . [??]

I finally got all the specs right and . . . tried to execute the order today and . . . US Mags does not make a 17x9 Saber at all and only makes the 18x9 in the soft lip and I want the traditional lip [even want to put the SSIII gold stripe on it] . . .
So, I have to go all the way to 17x9.5 up front with 18x9.5 in back or just go back to

[2] 17x8.0 4.5BS with 235/45/17 or 245/45/17
[2] 18x9.5 5.4BS with 265/40/18 or 275/40/17

Though on the one hand, I am sure it seems that I am making this WAY too complicated but when you are buying $3000 worth of wheels, you damn sure don't want to do that twice . . .

Yeah i agree, spend that much $$$$ in new rollers the specs better be dead on! With that being said, putting a 9.5" up front sure is squeezing the limitations of our cars without removing inner wheelwells, rolling the wheel lips, etc. and worrying about rubbing issues to say the least. I know out back they should fit with little to no mods.
That thing will look and should handle like a true corner carver when complete!

You know, just food for thought . . .

Since they don't have 17x9s, placing my order got delayed. Glad I didn't buy those tires that were on sale ahead of time . . .

So, I got to looking at a 18" front 19" rear tire combos, and you go from like 8 to 33 tire options. I won't ride on rubber bands though so I would have to maintain the 45 series front, 40 series rear minimum which means instead of 25ish" diameter front, 26ish" diameter rear with the 17/18 combo, I'd be 26ish" front, 27ish" rear with an 18/19 combo. I have been running 26.7 front and rear with these 245/60/15 BFG TAs without rubbing and with a 245/45/18 I would actually be just a little bit narrower and smaller diameter up front [but with nearly an inch more actual tread over the TAs] but with 275/40/19s in back I would be over an inch wider and a bit taller in the rear. Of course, the speedo would be off but I can deal with that.

Anyone try this?

Or know why it's a bad idea?

Despite the poor pic quality, MHT has kind of a cool car builder I was able to use to generate this pic to get an 18/19 front/rear idea. I am already sure my Eibachs are not going to lower the car this much. The car is only about a 1/2" lower with the Eibachs than with my sagging 30 year old factory springs.

I should have known better. Going 18s front and 19s rear will increase the wheel cost about $500.

Guess I'll stay with 17x8 up front with 235/45/17 and 18x9.5 in back with 265/40/18 with those Bridgestone S-04s I like.

Still will get about an inch more tread to the pavement in front than now and nearly two more in back. Bound to help my traction problems . . . should look decent.

I have 275s out back on my car and had to roll the quarter lip, just so you know. I can double check clearance tonight to be certain. I have pics in my photo album from the old site if you can find them.

Yeah, 275s will be tight. I will likely stick with these 265s because the S-04s still get 9.5 to the ground at 10.7 wide vs the 275s that often still only get 9.5 to the ground but are 10.9 wide. I've got 11.1" frame to fender on mine and can get the exact backspace I need since I am going with these custom Sabers to set that wheel exactly in the center of the space. I should have 2/10 to the frame and to the fender with the 265s back there. 275s will fit [with these wheels BS] but then you only have 1/10 of clearance.

I painted the car after the lip was rolled, but the paint was broken from rolling the lip.

As you can see, there iisn't much room at the frame rail either.
