I can't wait to see these wheels on the car.

Well, again, I "was" going to bite the bullet on the Sabers but now they want $150 more per wheel plus $40 per wheel to ship. So, nearly $200 per wheel more than the previous quote. They are trying to justify it based on "the lower price was for no gold on the spoke, just a chrome wheel". That is NOT what they said before. Plus, where does it say that anywhere on the website?

I am kinda back in undecided mode again . . .

I can buy an entire set of wheels for $800. I may still do it but this is just a tad shady, don't you think?

Go with the lower priced all chrome and paint (or plastidip, or vinyl insert). The gold they use is too much like anodized for my taste anyway. See if they bite on their own words about all chrome for $600 a pop. My 2 cents anyway (easy to do since it's not my money 🙂 )

Well, I just decided to bite the bullet and get the Sabers and the price has gone up $150 per wheel. Now, $750 for 17s and $800 for 18s. Same price whether staggered 8 front 9.5 rear or just 8 front and rear. Can't help but feel a little mucked with. Classic bait and switch. Oh, you can afford $600 per wheel? Well, um, not really but on a show quality 442 I thought what the hell . . . too late, they are now $750 and did we mention it will be an additional $40 per wheel to ship?

Sigh . . . so back in the undecided column again!

Good choice, Please share pics when you get them on. It should look really nice

I'm going to chime in here. I bought a set of US mags myself, Ramblers 18x8 & 18x9.5. If your trying to cheap out on wheels then don't even bother. Like the old saying goes that never fails "you get what you pay for". If your looking to spend $150 a peice for 17's or 18's your asking for it. Cheap wheels Crack and loose their luster quick. I can't tell you how many times I've seen cheap wheels Crack BAD! I was lucky enough to work at a company that is a vendor for US MAGS and got a nice discount. They cost me around $720. Regular price would be around $850. And they're not that "High quality" either they're decent. For $600 a peice they better be good. $150 more may be outrageous but at least they're not $1k a peice. Like I've seen before.

Agreed Olds 1 but it is not all or nothing with me. The fact that you can buy an entire set of wheels for what they [now] want to charge me for one wheel does not mean I want to buy an $800 set . . . it is just more than a little nuts. After all the research, you can see that the cheap wheels I started this thread with and those like them are no longer being discussed. I was prepared to do it but I am frankly having more heartburn over the bait and switch. Show a gold spoked wheel. Don't mention anything about that costing extra when you get a price quote . . . until you try to actually buy a set. Oh, you actually want the gold spokes? Well . . . ca--ching!

Great idea Hutch on just getting them without the gold. I am a little concerned over the color match myself. I called today but "the wheel guy" was gone at my local Discount Tire Center [closest retailer for US Mags plus they have great pricing on those Nitto 555 G2 tires I want and can put them on for me] so I couldn't get a price on "chrome only" Sabers. Will try again tomorrow.

The fact that someone finally made a set simulated SSIIIs that should be quite well made . . . wheels that just look beyond awesome on this particular car makes me think I have to figure out how to "get 'er done with Sabers" . . . somehow?

Well, took a week, but finally got an answer. Now, they are $750 gold painted, painted color of your choice, not painted, 17s or 18s. Plus $40 per wheel to ship. Guess I should have jumped on that $600 quote 2 months ago, huh? Truthfully, the latest is that I should have never been told that nor would they have actually honored it had I ordered.

Has anyone actually seen these wheels for real? What I am being told makes me think maybe I am the first . . . their tool up charge is $3000?

Oh well, think I am going to cough it up and give them a shot and HOPE I don't regret it . . . have decided maintaining that factory look is still a priority. And, a local machinist friend believes he can fab some center caps that will accept the factory 442 centers off my 15s.

Though they still look fine, I already know my SSIIIs are junk and you just cannot get great tires for them.

Just need to decide on all the same or staggered now . . .

I think you should stagger. Wider wheels in the rear will set off the look. How wide do you plan on going? If I where to spend big bucks like you I'd be going with 9.5 and up. Lol.

Oh, yeah, it will be 8 F&R or 8 front, 9.5 rear. Anxious to see how small a backspace I can get on the 9.5s? I won't use spacers so looking at my 4" stock BS wheels on the car, I can't go more than 4.5 BS back there. 4.25 would be safer. Stock BS on the 9.5s is 5.25 though so there may be a limit which may make the decision for me.

When I get the suspension mods done I want to do some auto-x and even put this thing on a track or 2 or 3 . . . so going square would be preferable for that but I won't chop up my front end since it is otherwise still show quality which limits me to 245s or maybe a slightly shorter 255 up front. Need at least 275s out back but would like to squeeze in some 285s if I can?

One thing I didn't realize before is how wide the range is between tire width and actual tread width? You really have to watch both numbers closely. Many tires are 1.5 to even 2" smaller where the rubber meets the road so it kinda defeats the point of having a 11" wide 285 tire when only 9 hits the road. You can get 9.6 on the road with a 245 BFG Comp 2 tire.

Yes, I know, tread width is not the whole story with traction but it kinda matters . . .

Sigh . . . Due to some unexpected problems [expenses] of late here with our 10 acre country abode, I am going to put this off until spring. My luck the price will go up another $190/wheel by then but so be it. I had set aside $2400 for this purchase based on that $600 quote but the extra $190/wheel plus tax requires an additional $1100 I need to spend on other things.

But, this will also give me some time this fall and next spring running with the new suspension and the stock 15" SSIIIs w/ 245/60 BFG TAs to see just how bad they really are? I suspect they will still be pretty bad and I probably still won't be able to go more than 1/2 way to the floor out of the hole with them but . . . storm damage and an electrical fire => other priorities.

Thanks to all the information and feedback, I know what I want now AND hopefully some others will find the information on this thread useful too . . . or not?

Meanwhile, I will start updating my suspension build thread [hopefully] this weekend.
