Get a qjet for a 76-1980 small block olds, and ANY HEI distributor from that same engine. Look for the 170xxxxx number on the driver's side and go to quadrajetparts.com and get a rebuild kit and a new accelerator pump. The carb and dizzy will drop right in. Tuck the plugs out of the way and be done with it.

But of course the cheaper, and easier option is to just fix your current carb. What are your problems exactly? be as detailed as you can.

Your car should have the hot air choke, make sure the everything is hooked up and nothing rotted out. Either the Qjet and distributor mentioned above or the 625 Street Demon and an Olds aftermarket HEI. Your CCC Qjet may need a rebuild but they are more complicated, Everyday Performance is reasonable and does rebuild the Electronic Qjet. Your cruise will need grounded to work, lock up torque converter won't work and maybe the A/C also needs grounded, that might be just the 442. These are the problems with eliminating the computer.

hot air choke on an 87? Isn't it an electric choke in that year?

Almost positive Olds used the hot air choke till the bitter end.

I didn't know that, the hot air systems are the best
They are more finicky to set and thanks to your explanation, I have come to agree with you, they maybe are the best system IF the carb is close to ideal, which the factory carb attached to the factory motor would be.

Olds used hot air choke in 87. They also use a weird vacuum idle kicker instead of a solenoid.
