Dad had a 76 Suburban with a 454, turbo 400 and a 4.11 posi. It was the 'trailering special'. Nothing feels like a BBC. It was thirsty though. 11 mpg without the A/C and 10 mpg with it. That was when the speed limits were 60 mph and that was driving it with restraint.
That would be the perfect parts truck for me

Now That it drives nice I'm toying with the idea that it needs a different motor. Like a stump pulling 454. It is attainable I do have one in my shed among other things but I don't have a good set of heads for it nor do I know anything about big block Chevy heads like which ones I should use. The big block I have is a 90 454 fuel injected motor from the dump truck that I parted earlier in this thread obviously I'm not going fuel injection with it so I'll need an intake an intake manifold an RV Towing camshaft and a set of heads because if I remember correctly it had two burned intake valves and about 6 tulip exhaust valves. She was an oil burner! As far as a rebuild kit I'll probably do an eBay cheap outset. So what are your thoughts what direction do you think I should take with this motor? Does anybody have a cheap set of heads?

Hello Clutch, I do have a nice set of BBC heads, 781 castings completely rebuilt ready to go. Bought the heads for a BBC build to put in my monte but the crank was cracked and haven't touched them. Where are you located? I'm in Milwaukee

It wants a 455 Olds.
As I've said before I would love to but but I don't have one ready to go I've got a 70 455 in pieces and a badly built 73 on stands in the garage but bolth need to be gone threw and I'm missing some key components. I would need 403 t/a mounts or truck 5.7 diesel mounts a 5.7 diesel power steering pump and pay someone to chang the output shaft in one of my bop th400s that are in unknown condition (so rebuild) time and money I don't really have. Although the idea of making it an REO bravada W-30 is cool in my opinion I just can't pull it off at the moment. I'm not even sure if I can pull off the 454 financially right now but it should certainly be cheeper

Buy a BBC donor in Texas? Good plan. No rust to deal with.
