I'm on my way- what kind of beer do you like? Seriously- I love LUND boats. I had one for 30 years. That's a real beauty!
Let's face it, people from Minnesota know how to build boats. No other boat met the specs for weight. I am glad Kevin's Marine orders their boats with 4 seat bases vs the standard 3. It loads and unloads very nicely and sits high in the water. I will be testing the gas motor Saturday, our reservoir is electric motor only. My only complaints so far is no studs to mount the fish finder, attached it to the trolling motor, seems to work. And installing a second battery was very tight, I can fit a piece of paper between the LiveWell pump and battery. I super stoked to own an EFI 4 stroke outboard, I HATE 2 strokes! The hitch for the Challenger and the cover will be here next week!

sits high in the water.
That is what sold me in the first place. My kids were small and the high freeboard was great- we never worried about them falling overboard. I made a custom console out of marine grade aluminum and mounted remote controls, Teleflex steering, and lots of gauges. I even scored a LUND tachometer from the home company on Fleabay. I mounted Tempress swivel seats on the benches. As a goof we once had a 125 horse Evinrude on the back. It scared the hell out of me but we clocked it at 55mph on a measured mile. I later settled down and found a 35 hp was just about perfect. I think that boat will last you your whole life and maybe your grandkids too.

Pff, a 125? I hope to one day be loaded enough to hang something like this out the back.

My style would be more like a turbo'd junkyard motor though. I wonder if a guy can buy just the guts?

I actually almost bought a 16 foot fiberglass that was mostly restored a few years back with a supposed 400 hp Olds 350. Even if it was half of that, it would have been crazy, my senses came to me. Our old Vanguard 14 foot fiberglass with a 50 HP Mercury 2 stroke carb would almost pull a skier and is definitely heavier than this boat. I figured a 25 HP EFI stroke would go almost as fast and be way more reliable.

You are going fishing, right? An old salt once advised me- "The best boat is the smallest one that gets the job done". He was correct. The 18 ft LUND was a terrific boat and I caught lots of fish in it. But aluminum and salt water don't get along well. Too much work so I went back to fiberglass which still suffers from the salt but not as bad. I went smaller to a 15' Whaler and an Evinrude 48SPL gets me everywhere on very little gas. .

I actually wanted a Fury 1400 but the dealer doesn't stock them. With the current Global situation, we decided to go with the 20 pounds heavier 1600 that was readily available, probably ends up cheaper with no wait time. Two feet in my little parking space does make a difference, I would have to get rid of a car with an 18ft. We have caught fish in very shallow water with our old 14ft, this one can go nearly as shallow, which is what we want. The hitch arrived for the Challenger yesterday, will install it Sunday. Still waiting on Amazon to send a supposedly the in stock, supposedly 2 of them, Curt plug in harness for the trailer, WTF?
