And THAT is the key. Small boats can get way shallow and even if you run aground you can just push off and be on your way. Sometimes I find Bass feeding in one foot of water. The big boats can only just sit aways off and drool.
Well I took the boat to Crooked Lake on the Q'uapelle River system. It is a fairly large lake and about 40 feet deep. The 25 hp Merc starts in a pull or two, 3 at most but it is very stiff to pull sometimes. It ran very smooth and in the lighter aluminum boat, it pulls about the same as our old 14 ft Vanguard fiberglass with the 50 hp Mercury 2 stroke carb, behind on a tube would be fun. Unfortunately no fish to report. Our friend Wayne, the guy who caught the 34", 11 pound 12 ounce Walleye at our reservoir caught 14 earlier in the day at Crooked Lake. He lives out there and knows the spots. No one around us was catching either. I swear there will be more fish pictures😫
I got out yesterday. Typical Saturday madhouse but the Fluke were biting. I got 10 with one fat keeper. I was alone so the picturte is in a cooler. I almost had to fold it in half to fit.
That last pike has some war wounds! I made it out to Sherburne reservoir last week bite was slow but I still managed to get a few keeper walleye for supper between the wife and myself. Oh yeah and a wicked sunburn. Spf 15 wont cut it anymore haha
My Wife had a monster Channel Catfish, could tell by the fight. Fought for a 1/2 hour, hardly moved it, reel screaming then broken line. One more Pike.
I was just assuming it was a big Channel Cat. Definitely not a Pike or Carp, both get big there but run like mad. There is another potential monster she could have hooked that can exceed 200 pounds, the Lake Sturgeon. There was one caught last year in Round Lake just down the river from Crooked Lake.
