well pardon my french but god ****ing dammit.
in the process of doing the tach conversion, turn the tach over and somehow I managed to break the ****ing needle. Was specifically trying NOT to touch the face at all, too. Not just in one place. pissed doesn't even cover it. I shuttered the whole thing and came back inside before I break anything else. Can't just get something done without breaking something in the process. Cripes.
Looks like it will work fine otherwise, all the connections match up.... have to get the soldering iron out and move a pin that the clock uses for ground from the old board to the new. and had to move the connection clips over.
Anyone has an orange tach needle*** from a busted unit or a reasonable facsimile hit me up. I don't even right now.
Also, screw Chevrolet. The Olds and Pontiac clusters are so much easier to deal with than this, they just basically pop right out once you get a few easy bits removed. This thing, blah.

I feel your pain, that has happened to me. I have clusters with no needles on the from the same crap.
Started tackling the body stuff. Went after the old tonneau cover holes on the pass side. No idea if I’m actually doing this right or not. First timer here. We will see.
Still needs a coat of build for the waves made by my sh*t sanding and slight indents still where the holes were. I think I’ll get the hang of this by the time I’m done lol. Primer was still wet here.
The big patch was some surface rust I buzzed off. I left the last two holes around the corner to do individually bc of the curve.

Can you weld? Do you have a mig welder? My first choice for closing up those holes would be to weld them shut if no mig is available I would think the next best thing would be to tap the holes in and fill them with a fiberglass reinforced filler like u-poll fiberall then do a coat of body filler to flatten out the surface. If you have any questions ask before you act there a few good bodymen on this site
So she hasn't really moved much in all this time, but today I got the oil changed, zinc added, tires pumped up, and this old thing back on the road. About tore my hair out trying to figure out what the deal was. Sputtering, no power, felt like she was pushing against something. Finally after just sitting and revving it a little, WHAM. I think there must have been some gum in the carb or something, it just came back to life and all's well now I think.
For the mean time, this car is just gonna be a beater. Will have to keep it out of the rain until I figure out where the water is getting in, but I'm not worrying about how she looks for now. Can't afford to get it done, no time to do it myself (and learn along the way) so F it. She's getting driven.
Next to get Betty up to speed. Since we aren't going to Cleveland, I may be driving it back to Wisco in August just for fun, but got a little bit of work to do before then....

Yep. I put new seals on the door, but nada. Need to check the drain on the AC box but man that's a PITA to get at. Of course I didn't think of it when I had it in the air changing the oil. I still think the door/window is out of adjustment just enough, but I haven't messed with it.
On my one Malibu, same deal, the ac box had a clogged drain hole, very common with the G bodies
