My car has no fusible links, can I use a breaker instead? Maybe a 40A since my power feed wires are 10ga.

I like the idea of breakers but the kind that would last in the engine compartment would need to be marine grade. Those get expensive. I use a roll of fusible link wire and make my own. All it is is a wire that is several gauges smaller than the wire being protected so it melts first.

I was going to add some fusible links, but I don't like the idea of having to replacing a length of wire if something goes wrong. I need a battery terminal block anyway so I figured a (marine) breaker would do the job. I just don't know if the car pulls more than 40A during normal operation.

I use 40-60 amp inline mega fuse to power everything in the car. 60 of it has power seats and/or windows - done two different cars like this and am in the process of doing a third.. I know what you mean about fusible link. If it were out in the open then fine, but at the starter? What a PITA.

A idea I've thought of is piggy back two cables off the positive terminal of the battery with the second running to a junction block mounted on the innerfender to mount the fusible links in a easy access spot. I have one of these to use.

I even have one of these from a H body Olds 88 for when I figure out what amp Maxi fuse to use to replace fusible links.
