I just have to ask...

HOW the fudge did you get the rockets out without damage to the lenses? I've not had much luck removing those things without hearing that dreaded snap of the plastic.

Haha! Mostly ignorance.

I just used a small flat blade that I had turned into a specialty tool for something years ago. The tip is bent at a 90 degree angle almost like a 90 seal pick but beefier. I just wedged it in where I could and kept pulling straight out all around the perimeter. I didn't rock it against the plastic. It didn't take much as I remember.

I only pulled them out because the one center rocket fell out, so the aim was to replace them.

You can get 86-88 emblems here (red/chrome/black rocket) About 39 bucks/pair.

And 85/85 emblems here (silver/black rocket) Same price as above. They also have the 86-88 emblems too.

That’s awesome you can buy those emblems now. Thanks for the link, I didn’t know. I guess The NOS tail lights I have on the shelf are now worthless 😳

I wouldn't say that. If you're talking about the "Rocket" Centers, there will always be a demand for NOS vs Repro.

Yes, they're junk. Give them to me. I'll dispose of them for you... :)

Just started my Digi-Tails conversion of my 81-83 Tail Lights.
IMG_4934.JPG

First I sand and buff the writing off the lens and polish the plastic chrome.

The instructions are very detailed.

I photo copy the templates and cut them out to trace the cut out areas.

Aaaaand this happens

So the recess in the center of the lens is preventing the light board from going all the way in and seating on the internal silver reflectors.

I'm going to stop here and e-mail Digi-Tails to get some input and guidance before continuing. They say they fit 81-88 tails. I hope they have an answer that I'm missing.
