I know that song haha. Growing up my parents had a wood stove so it goes faster than it seems when you see what is left over in the spring.

I cut up some wood that a buddy cut down, burn it in the fire pit for the cool night fires. I love that MS261, it runs amazing for that small stuff and will pull through an 18" tree also.

Watched the Rain and Wind storm, 50 mph +/-, bounce the boulevard trees around and wonder if i have enough mix oil, jic.

Down here in Florida when Hurricane Michael hit, you couldn't find that on a shelf anywhere for a month or so. I keep several of each on hand for that reason, as well as spare chains.

Outsourced my jacking to a buddy of mine.

Down comes the mulberry tree. Half dead, starting to split, leaning hard.

Its down now but we have to finish the cleanup and haul the load of brush to the dump.

I guess that's one way to do it. With a tree that small I'd just drop it before chunking it up rather than do it standing on a ladder.

If it was weighted funny due to shade/growth pattern affecting where the weight was that's when you wrap a tow strap to a come along and add just enough tension to control the fall, assuming you didn't want to use wedges.

I HATE cutting off any kind of ladder.

Gotta agree with ck80 here. A ladder is no place to be if your carefully selected and cut length of tree branch decides to not go the way you wanted it to go and comes back atcha. Plenty of Y00b t00be video on that uh-oh.

Helped a buddy clear a bit a his property this weekend to build a new house. Had a 5 ~70' pine tree to bring down.

First two went great. Had a real pucker moment on #3 then #4 and #5 went fairly well.

This is tree #4. Because of the issue we had with #5, which I'll explain in a sec. We put the arm of the excavator on the back of it to stabilize it a bit. It had a very slight backwards lean from where we wanted it to go. Link to video of using the wedge to finish it off:

Tree #3 was leaning to the side of where it needed to fall. Was leaning more towards the bunkie. And to the back were power lines. We really didn't have anywhere to tie it off to guide it - at least nothing close enough that we had enough line to reach. Wedge cut went fine. I was doing the back cut and got to a point where I didn't feel comfortable cutting any deeper as it wasn't falling. I took my saw out to take a closer look and decide what to do next a small breeze pushed it back, closed up the back cut and was now sitting there resting on the back cut. Probably would have taken a fair bit of force to actually have pushed it over backwards, but it was still a pretty precarious position.

Video is of how we sorted it out. It's a bit long ~4 minutes and has commentary from my friend (the property owner). We made a huge mistake by not being better prepared and taking extra precautions. but I'll admit that the first two we took down went very well and I was lulled into a false sense of security. And before someone asks why I didn't just use the wedge like I did for tree #4. My friend didn't inform that he had it until AFTER this troublesome tree was down.

I will humbly accept all admonishments.

Picked this MS461 up local for 500, powerhead only. Needs a few small parts and I'll put what I want for a bar & chain. Piston is perfect, made Oct 2016. Plastic is faded but mechanically it's solid. I'm looking into upgrading the muffler to.

$500 is a great price for a 461 right now. Now that they are discontinued the prices for them are through the roof. All you gotta do with the muffler is take the cage out of the inside and open the hole up. Stay away from the dual port front covers, they don't flow any better and just make more noise.

Here's my 461. The 3/4 wrap and the west coast clutch cover are aftermarket, the rest is OEM.
