Is it me or is every GNX collector/hoarder/investor cashing out the cars? Seems like I've seen alot of low mielage cars being sold unless they're on a six month ownership then off to the next flipper.
Market on those cars has been boom and bust for a while now. I'm guessing a lot of 'collectors' are getting out now while the going is good.

It's time to get the next hot investment:

I hear the 'on velvet' edition is expected to get particularly valuable

Seems that way to me too. Collectors who've had them for 20-30 years finally moving on or as said, cashing out. Figure the market is about peaked, so if they've been on the fence the time is now to move.

Have only seen a GNX in the wild once, a guy in the Milwaukee area bought it new I believe and actually drives it. I'm sure it's stored in the winters and not a daily driver but many in the car community knew who he was when I saw it a couple times and brought it up locally on an old forum. If I had the room and money I'd have no problem with a garage queen GNX. I would want to drive it here and there for sure but I'm sure with collectors when you have 20-100 nice cars you can't drive them all.

People are getting out of their '63 Corvette split window coupes too. There have been waves of them selling on BaT lately and bringing upwards of $200K.
Funny thing is that the '63 Vette isn't near as nice as '65 thru '67 even though they have been bringing more money (with the exception of '67 big block convertibles).
'63's had drum brakes, no side pipe option and plain jane interiors. The trim on the outside of the '63 A pillars is ugly as sin as well as the hood inserts and side gills.
These cars had a huge step up starting in '65 in outside looks, much nicer interior and 4-wheel disc brakes. Personally, I don't like the split in the back window of the '63 either. Much cleaner look without it.

As much as these cars have a special place in my heart... $200K is a lot to stomach for a 14ish second car.

I will concede that 547 GNXs is far more rare and desirable than 3300 Demons. There is a certain exclusivity in that 1 to 500 range of remaining cars.

So let's take it a step further and get your take on one of the less than 215 remaining 1982 GNs?

It's a lot less than 200k

Rare, yeah absolutely. Desirable? Not to as many people unfortunately.

The GNX made the world sit up and take note for a few years. The Original GNs, not so much. Hell, even the few turbo '82s aren't anything worth discussing other than being obscure.

They had a couple things going for them though... nice paint job, good looking wheels for 14", and most importantly, darn comfy seats.

I appreciate a good comfy seat more and more as time goes by.

On the list of cars I need re-acquire too.

So much for "American cars don't bring big money on BaT"!

The guys who bought these cars back in '87 with the hopes that "Someday they'll be worth big money" have finally seen their ship come in and are cashing in BIG TIME. I think probably about a decade later than they'd probably hoped for but better late than never. A lot of speculators 15 or so years ago were saying that GNs in general (not particularly citing years or the GNXs) would never bring the money that cars like CoPo Camaros and Hemi cars were bring at the auctions because so many GNs were bought and parked or preserved whereas the Hemis and CoPos were raced and used up. Looks to me the GNX is now at least on par with CoPos and surpassed the Hemi cars!

These GNX sales make me wonder if the TTA values are about to skyrocket as well. I mean they're not cheap but it's basically a GNX drivetrain stuffed in a 3rd Gen Trans Am.
$30K in 2018.... I believe they were actually faster than the GNX as well (by like a tenth 0-60 you'd have to look it up to verify).

It could be generational. All the folks who wanted the classic muscle have already paid for it. Now it's time for the children who grew up in the 80s and 90s to get their dream cars... as the old guys die off and their old cars get sold for a loss as part of an estate.

Just spitballin'.

I still remember when t buckets, or, even model as/ts in general were MUCH more expensive.

Tri-fives seem to be on the downswing too, as does anything of that era.

I think you're on the right track there, not many 30 or 40 year olds would pay ridiculous coin for something of the era. Over the weekend I was VERY tempted by a super clean Plymouth business coupe. Had an older nuts and bolts restoration, frame off. Had a mint green lacquer paint that looked like it could've been done yesterday. Interior looked excellent, no notable wear, nothing modernized beyond 12v wiring and associated parts.

Asking price? 13,000. Very tempted indeed.
