Obvious solution is to increase the shop size and project complexity to compensate for the excess welder capability.
welllll, yeah, BUT....
1) no room in current house
2) no 220 in current garage
3) selling house in a couple years
4) gotta be tight with $$$ and justify what I'm buying if I can't use it
Eh, plenty of other rationalizations to make too.
Skip 10 dinners out with the wife/girlfriend.... paid in full.
At current inflationary pressures its cheaper to buy it now than it will be in 2 years, effectively saving you another 33% or better off the purchase price.
Use it to make or fix a couple doohickeys you can sell and offset the capital investment.
Probably will need to repair/update the house before moving, never know where it could come in handy - such as value enhancing metalwork to railings or garden fences
Perhaps the best argument of all is if you keep living saying 'in a couple years I'm gonna' .... then eventually you're going to look around and say what happened here? I'm getting old.... and I still haven't done xyz. If you can do it today without hurting the near future tomorrow, do it today. We don't get more years. Enjoying the most of the here and now is where it's at. You might get run over by a delivery truck Monday for all you know.
I'm doing something stupid as we speak. All goes well I'll have news on it in 2 weeks.... or less. Fingers crossed.
Oleta & I have made a concerted effort to clean the shop. Her side looks great. I'm working on my side, but the floors are clean. Now I gotta try for the tool boxes and the work bench. I haven't seen the bottom since we built the shop in '18. But the 83 Cutlass is running. Got a little bit of wiring to finish and then start on the body..................

Consider, having 220 wiring in your house actually makes it more attractive to a potential buyer because it means you have taken the time and initiative to to keep the internal infrastructure of your residence current and/or up-to-date. It also means you can ask and get a higher price for your property, which translates into a better negotiating stance when it comes to being able close a deal on whatever you decide you want as the replacement. Even just having an updated main board with more breakers and a dedicated 220 circuit wired in is worth $$$ down the road.
