What did you do to your G-Body today 2024

what does it say on the timing cover?
it says to discard and replace after removal, supposedly a one time use only (plastic) cover that comes on the GM crate, and original vortecs, etc..I think they have a factory (RTV) seal bead embedded in them, and they don't want you to try and re-apply that afaik...

I had one on my original ZZ383 GM crate engine, but we replaced it with an aluminum cover on the last rebuild.

Yeah, Johnny, that bar, except that for 46 USD all that is there is the bar and the axle tube mounts, no drop links or frame brackets, both of which I needed and both of which are resident in the donor pickup. I don't care about fitment at this point. What I needed was samples of both to use as show and tell items for parts store mooks who can't get beyond what the computer they have their face buried in is telling them.

As for fitting the frame brackets, you are correct in thinking that they likely will not be a direct fit, due mostly to major differences between the G-Body frame rails and those under my S-10, plus the minor technical detail that in the S-10 the bar is behind the axle but for the Monte, it will have to be relocated to sit in front and wrap around the pinion snout. Don' matta, with the factory items as patterns, I can bend fold, spindle and mootilate my way to ones that will work without engaging in multiple excursions under the Monte to do test fits and generally otherwise imitate Mr. Sneaky Snake at his finest. i am getting enough of that right now doing the exhaust pipes on my S-10 as it is.

Oh, yeah, in reviewing the addy, I did notice that while the part is in Litchfield Mn, about 450-500 miles south and west, or a good days drive south of me, the vendor won't ship north of the border so It would have to be sent to my US package/parcel/ item drop and held for me. Not a big deal in and of itself, only that right now there is already stuff sitting there and I have no idea at this point if i will get there before the end of the year!

Worked on the hood ridge also about 12 hours in such an area , I made a tool to spread filler onto the ridge itself by notching a paint stick it's not perfect but I could spread a thin layer of bondo onto the ridge after hours of useing a flexible straight edge and a pinging hammer ..I also used wood and props to work one one side I'm telling you ,...there was prying ,and one off working applying lic's with the side of my hand ect....and with improvised tools and a lot of hairbrained" ....work..that's that ' ! .. and last comes layers or spot putty (red) and primer sanding in between .of course there was block sanding

It's no where near sad if you can take something that others might ignore or dismiss and turn it into something once again useable and serviceable. Builders don't call body shops "Purgatory" for nothing. Cars sent in for "pro" body work can languish for months or even years!

For myself I say, "keep after it, hoss." If nothing else what you learn from this exercise will be of value when you tackle your next set of doors......................................(And you will.............)
