I always thought that that set always looked cheap to me. I like the LS1 F-body rear disk brake conversion much better, just come cutting and tap a couple holes and bolt them on(bigger too) and have the internal parking brake built inside the rotor.
When I did mine I used sockets for spacers and pushed them out with a hydrolic press, made it a breeze(other than taking the control arms off ;) )
For the uppers I pushed them out with a air chissel.
Be sure to use the good Moog Problem Solver bushings when you do this, there is no point...
I put the new engine in the SS this last spring, since then I have only put 1300 miles on it. The new engine runs strong and gets decent mileage(17 if I am easy on the go pedal) but after spending the money on the engine this year I have been worried about having problems with the car(and...
What lifters are you using? If they are solid lifters then you do not set them the conventional way. I would back all of the rocker nuts off one complete turn and try again.
Is the 85 Monte a SS or SC? If it is an SS you will need all kinds of parts other than the bumper and grille.
An 85 SC grille will be technically different but will bolt on to your 81 just fine.
81-86 Sport Coupe(SC) Monte front fenders are different than the 86-88 Luxury Sport(LS) front fenders. The LS front fenders are an inch longer, the 83 fender will bolt on BUT it will be an inch shorter up front by the bumper PLUS the LS does not have a marker light on the front fenders while...
Pull the filter off and make sure that the old "O" ring from the old filter is not still on the block, sometimes that happens and will cause a bad leak.
As for filters I run AC Delco filters ONLY on my chevrolet engines. A great filter for most SBC engines is a PF1218, it has a...
I would go ahead and replace the bearings if you have not driven a car with this rearend installed. When the bearings go bad in these rears they will howl while driving down the road. Just because the bearing race does not show anything doesn't mean there is not a problem with the hearing. I...
I sold one last week from a 85 SS that was a standup style spoiler, it had a couple of minor cracks. I sold it locally to a buddy for $50 which was a VERY fair price.
I know of the build, the owner is a member on www.montecarloss.com and gives us some updates on the car occasionally. Very nice build and LOTS of money dropped into the car!
Another option would be to buy a windsheild for a 81 Monte, the antenna is built into the windsheild. The worst thing is trying to find the wire that comes from the window to the radio.
