1970 Olds Cutlass S Rat Rod Style

Why no burnout pics?
Will see what I can do tomorrow🤪. I want to test on it, sound and shift feel. The 403 blew off the one tire on dry pavement with the shorties and Dynomax Superturbo mufflers. Our town, they dare to call it a City is a skating rink, they call streets. As long as it climbs the hill out of my garage, smoke will roll😉.

I made it up the hill after a few runs. Well, the good, better oil pressure with 10W40 vs 20W50 and definitely less noise and exhaust is only slightly loud and sounds amazing. The bad, no burnouts. I set the fan temp at 90C. It is a push in rad style. Davies Craig has a screw in style for the intake, I will upgrade. My point it was idling after a drive, I was adding Transmission fluid, more on that in a minute. I notice the fan isn't on, the temp 250! I turn it off and adjust down the temp till the fan comes on. The oil light didn't come on for low pressure but it was down to the bottom mark on the gauge for oil pressure. The trans, no shifts at all, going up to 3000 rpm. I am slightly overfull and even removed the zip ties off the TV cable. I will check line pressure before pulling it. I have a TH350 that can go in and take my time and double check everything in the 2004R.

I am seriously considering a TKX wide ratio 5 spd for the new motor. I plan on getting the 3.08 Yukon posi in the 8.5" Type O 12 bolt this year. Not cheap, 5ish grand but would take anything I could throw at including a Torque Storm Supercharger. Going to see what is all involved for the swap on Classic Olds.

TH350 in, I put 2 liters in the converter and it took 8 more to fill. I was surprised the Metric bolts were used for the mounts. Speedometer is off by 10 mph at 60 mph and it shifts perfect, not too soft or too harsh. Good till I get the new motor in, hopefully with a 5 spd manual.

Took my Wife for a drive down to the local reservoir yesterday afternoon. Tried a couple of hard launches on dry pavement. Yeah, the factory 1600 stall sucks, didn't even spin the tire. No bogs, just noise. I will take it for another drive, maybe double check the timing and I never looked at the AFR gauge when flooring it either. I leaned down the secondaries after installing it. It was 11 flat, was 12.5 last I checked, full throttle. Cruising is mid 14's to low 15's. Either way, I will put some miles on it, probably short cruises to visit my Daughter a 1/2 hour away. I plan on stripping the paint to bare metal, removing, treating, converting as much rust as possible. I bought a bunch of cans of the red rust destroyer primer. I will probably quickly sand it once it is all applied and clear coat it afterwards to seal it. The drive train is my main goal. I left a message at the machine shop to install a pilot bearing in my crank. Hopefully the short block will be ready by Summer. Edelbrock is supposed to release the new SBO heads this Summer, need to come up with the 3 grand. Then 5 grand for the 5 spd. I may have to go back to the upgraded 2004R, hopefully can figure out, what I did wrong with the CK kit. I have the 3.08 and Yukon posi for the 8.5" Type O. I just need a bearing and seal install kit. I plan on doing that in my Daughter's garage this next Winter, way more room.

Just driving it around, the 1600 stall sucks. I ordered a cheap 2000 to 2200 stall converter. The 403 sounds a lot better with acceptable oil pressure. I just got a box from Cutlassefi. Black ceramic coated headers and my RPM intake converted to SEFI.

I think the choke is finally dialed in on the Qjet. I had to add two washers behind the choke housing. I was leaving it slightly loose, tight the linkage stuck down. I also set the coil tighter, fast idle up a bit and closed up the amount the pull opened. I also cleaned all the chrome, Stainless and adonized trim. Looks pretty good, will take pics tomorrow. This also arrived, 1000 cfm and a 1/4 the price of the Holley TB.

Found screws for the sensors. Looks like a LS style IAC and a TBI style TPS. I pissed around with getting full throttle and smooth movement on the throttle body. It was no where near right, as is. I also used the Permatex Orange thread locker on the the eight throttle plate screws and side linkage. A lot better than how it arrived. I will order sensors and base gasket today and pick up some 5/16" stainless 1" long bolts and washers as well for the four base bolts.

New throttle body on with new TPS and IAC. Throttle stud on, my TV cable attachment went missing. Getting a new one and Spectre Throttle cable bracket next, baby steps.
