1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Sedan LS Turbo Build

As I posted in my intro thread, I recently bought this 1983 Olds Cutlass Supreme 4 door. 75k miles, 231 c.i. V6 GM power plant, 3 speed automatic.

Current motor has rod knock and will be coming out soon.

Plan: 5.3L LS truck motor, keep AC (100% needed in FL), turbo + goodies
Goal: 500 whp sleeper to drive on weekends, drag race once in a while, eventually do the Power Tour or Drag Week.

2000 Full 5.3L LS pull out with 4L60e, 145k miles = MINE

Got it home:


Will run the 4L60e until it breaks (TH400 HD ftw)

Taking the motor apart to inspect. So far, so good. Has some nasty iron sludge from straight water in the motor, but I can fix that.

Little more progress:

Pulling the engine a part, oil pick up looks fine but sludge in the oil pan.

Cleaned up nicely:


Parts cleaner at work FTW:


Pulled one bearing to inspect, looks good enough for 145k miles:


Felpro rear main seal changed and rear cover gasket:


Put the pan back on:


Need to tap pan for oil return for turbo next.
