If that's the attitude, be happy with $3-500 scrap value.

Stick a $1000 price tag on it and take the first $500 that comes along. Shame is it is worth more in parts, than there is in value in restoring it. If any of the previous owners held the car in particularly high regard, it wouldn't be in a very sorry state today.

Lots of good parts still left on that car. The console and shifter, steering wheel, the bucket seats if they arent ruined, the hood if it's not rotted or filled with Bondo, the rear spoiler, both bumpers, pontentially the doors.
Look closer... console is missing a credit card sized chunk on the passenger side, you'd need a tetanus shot to touch that shifter or steering wheel (wheel doesn't even count as a core due to spoke rust), paint is bubbling on the doors where they rot... I'd bet the bumpers are rusted behind and on the bottoms like the rest of the car. Time to pull the handful of decent parts and scrap the shell 🙂

I bought a black 84 hot air car a few years ago for $1200. Doors rotten but had a lot of good parts but engine was in it not running. Held on to it for a while then sold it for the same $1200 just too much to fix for me at the time. But in today’s day and time anything can be restored with all the parts that are out there. But I would not expect much and these guys on the forum will tell you how they really feel! Just FYI.

not to make a selling point or convince no one, but its a project with potential. plus if i may say with out going to gbody forum jail again there a few points i like to cover. if the cars not your cup of tea no need to throw shade. your getting what you pay for ive seen these cars go for double digits, of course in really good shape. second everyone here did not buy one of the g-body they own in dealership conditions it takes pride and joy not to mention time and most important MONEY to get it to be your eye candy. for last and not least no ones putting a gun to no ones head pressuring for any one to buy it so why all the negativity lol i see misery LOVES company to the fullest on here 😉
My .02...

My first personal rule is, unless I'm trying to buy it, or someone asks, I won't rip apart a poster's personal car. Not your car though so wasn't worried about that myself.

next up, you mentioned your friend was interested in see what kind of offers or trades he might get. Part of that, to me, is he may need to be better informed what he does, and equally as important, DOESN'T have. Otherwise a strong or fair offer gets passed over while holding out for a pipe dream.

Third, since the owner wasn't posting himself as a for sale ad, I like to let anyone who finds the car here on this site get the benefit of my experience in owning as many of these as I have, be it parts or projects. Part of that is pointing out visible flaws as well as what is likely present based on past experience in vehicles with the flaws that can be seen.

If you take a fairly abstract view of things you have to admit... that car is pretty rough as a start, doesn't even have clear ownership since it's bonded, and may even have hidden salvage history - again because it's bonded.

Typically around here members look out for one another and when we see piles of red flags... well, we point them out.
