Just spotted this thread and following! Looks like some fun.

I have to admit that body work is not my forte, but it all needs to get done - GET R DONE!!

Your track time goals are quite reasonable. Throw a little laughing gas at it to be in the 10's :)

Thanks man!!! I can honestly say I don’t like doing body work, this will be the third car I have painted and I hate this part more and more every time😂. My plan is to hit it with some nitrous down the road, I’ll slowly work my way up to a 200 shot if it doesn’t break first.

After almost 2 years of hard work this beast is about ready to make some passes. I would like to thank all the members for all the advice and kind words. Also a big thanks to my wife for allowing me to spend so much time in the garage 😂. It’s definitely not done yet but it’s a hell of a lot better than what I started with. On the down side my front wheels are rubbing on the upper control arms lip. I think I can grind the lip down enough to clear, I really don’t want to use spacers so fingers crossed.

I got some 100 octane low lead from the local airport and took the car for a ride down the street yesterday, it runs great and pulls like a **** which is great but it still needs some tuning. Unfortunately my tires are rubbing on the wheel well and I just put some 5/16 spacers on and it’s still going to rub which sucks because I’m going to have to buy different offset rear wheels. My timing is also weird with the engine. I’m reading 30 degrees of initial timing and it’s pulling 20 degrees of advance which brings a total of 50 degrees of total timing with the advance can not hooked up ( I don’t plan on using the vacuum anyway) and it seems to want more timing. The balancer is a new sfi rated jegs and I have verified tdc and my marks are dead on between the balancer and the timing tab. I’ve read about this happening to other people but no one has a actual answer of why this would happen.

I finally have a track day set!!! I’ll be going to New England drag way on September 13th for a test and tune. I’ve made quite a few test hits with the car, it boogies and I’m shifting early. I think I figured out the timing ordeal I was having, when I set the lash cold I set it .004 tighter than spec. I should have set it .002 over spec because it’s a iron head iron block. I’m used to aluminum heads on iron blocks so I set it the way I usually do not even thinking. That may be why my initial timing is higher. I am going to re adjust the valves maybe this weekend and see if it is the problem.

Yup .006 tight for aluminum .002 loose for steel heads.

Well unfortunately I had let the Monte go last week. My son started school and they decided to go with remote learning for the first 2 months maybe more if the 💩 hits the fan again which puts my wife out of work. I need to keep a roof over our heads and food in the fridge. I just want to thank every for all your kind words and your help along the way it is much appreciated. Maybe someday in the future I can do it all over again bigger and better and maybe get to actually make a pass. Thanks again.

Feel that pain, we are doing the home thing (the wife's choice) & trying to juggle my summer daylight/winter possible afternoon & the wife's mix of daylight & midnights. We have a babysitter who will try her best to get the Jr. Mechanic when she has him but has preschoolers she has to work with too. Hope you guys can keep everything stable to get through this headache.
