where is this panel located???

That photo is of the cowl tag. It should be located under the hood right by the drivers side cowl against the firewall. IIRC, 1986 should say 442 or w42. Also the f41 suspesnion package along with the w42 code on your rpo label in the trunk would be a good sign (...again this is only info for 86, im not positive that the other years are the same, but I imaging most would be.

well that's great.. cause my car is an 86 😀 least, the title says its an 86 haha but my car looks exactly like this one..i cant find anything online of the differences between a normal cutlass supreme and a 442

i thought the 442s came factory with a "4 barrel carb, 4 speed and (2) dual exhaust"... the the hurst 442 had all that with the hurst shifter thrown in...

Against what I am sure about 95% of the members on this board will tell me....I am going to stick with the 307 for now. I have enough parts laying around that I want to try throwing some boost at it for a little while. I have a tendency to play with odd platforms, but I have always had good luck in the past...and as long as my tune is on spot, for the power I want to make I don't see it being a problem 😉

So what is the power you want to make ( E.T.'s and MPH at the track )? A 307 can easily be woken up but the stock 7A heads and A5 intake are very limiting in a performance application.

I would reconsider your boosting idea. I say that not because it can't be done, but because every other person in the past who has claimed they were going to do this never when through with it for one reason or another and with the 7A heads/A5 intake, the power gain to PITA ratio isn't in your favor.

I have been fiddling with it today and I think I have it spot on. I even stuck with the ccc HEI distributor running it locked out @ 30*.

This is hurting you. Your car needs more total timing than that. You're leaving power and milage on the table, and increasing chances of detonation at low RPM's which a $20 distributor will cure.

(warmed up, 16.2 inches of vacuum in park, 14.5 in gear)

An in tune stocker is closer to about 19+ in park.

i know that much..but its kinda hard to see what my car is since toe PO modded the hell out of the car..all i know is it had a 4 barrel motor

19 inches with the factory roller .435/.438 and 194/210?
Sounds a little high to me...but I will take your word for it....

I know the motor can take more as a lot of people set the base on these things between 24-27 (not taking into account the ccc advance which can be as much as 10*), but being locked out and that I am not looking for any crazy performance, 30 is a comfortable level...

I am well aware of the restrictions of the 7a heads in stock form...in a n/a motor, and if I stumble across a set of 5a heads for dirt cheap...i may pick them up. But I am sure I can make the 7a work for now 😉

Mine was 19.5. My friends was 20. Our engines were in tune.

Then we'll just have to strongly disagree here if you feel 30 locked out with NO vacuum advance is acceptable for performance, milage, and piston longevity....

You still haven't mentioned your ET/mph goals.
