Small update...

I was digging through some of my spare garbage today and found an old Mallory HyFire ignition I had that I completely forgot about. I had used it on another project but had a problem with the magnetic trigger registering....but it would be the perfect box for the project because it has boost timing capability (with a map sensor), and a bunch of other awesome features like two step and rpm window switch. I am going to run this with the stock 7-pin hei distributor.

Its hard to tell in the photo, but I found a bad zener diode, as well as a capacitor. I had another diode and repaired it, but I am going to have to wait until tomorrow to get over to radio shack to change the capacitor.

On a side note, I am hoping I can get some time this weekend to go through the new transmission. I'm building a mild th350 with some stuff I have laying around, but I have to swap to the BOP case and change a few things  . With that being said....if anyone is semi-local...I will have a 200r4 for sale in the next week or so (kzf code of course) 😉

Why step back to the 70s with an old 3 speed for a street car unless money is real tight. Why not have both maximum acceleration and a nice cruiser with low rpm highway driving and good mileage. 3.73s and a three speed suck. Especially with a 307 or big block. Best money I ever spent on any of my street cars. Unless its primarily a strip car and you have a truck and trailer and then my all means.

I'm actually not a big fan of the OD stuff, just personal preference I guess. I prefer 2.52 first in the th350, and honestly...if I thought I could make it live under boost....I would be stuffing a th200 under the car with its 2.74 first and let it eat...
I ran my caprice as a daily driver with a th350 and 3.73s for a while and didn't mind it...drove it to the track and home.

I am actually switching over to a 3.42 rear gear. I picked up a posi chuck and gears from a grand national, so I figure I will use them since they are better suited for the application anyways, so it shouldn't be to bad on the highway.

where are you located? ill take the oz 200 off your hands! 😀

How much power are you going to get that 307 to make? My 509ci put out about 570 foot pounds of torque and lived fine with a Stage 1 build with a billet forward drum/shaft. www.extremeautomatics.com Lonnie did both of mine. Stage 3 is good to a 1000HP & 850TQ.

Not sure how to daily drive a three speed with 3.73s and be satisfied with that. Must not travel the highway. I know the small block will tolerate the rpms better than a big block but it would still suck buzzing it just getting to someplace and eating fuel.

Not trying to knock you or your build just trying to get you to think about it and maybe give you a heads up as to whats out there. You leave a lot on the table with a beloved th350 weight gearing efficiency converter.

If a TH-2004R can handle the boost from a Grand National's V6 it surely can handle any power out of a 307, boosted or not.

I've had a built TH-2004R in the past that was behind my 455 for years. Daily drove that car and never had a problem. Ended up destroying the converter but was lucky that it just turned the fluid pitch black but that trans just kept going. Flushed it out and installed the trans behind my brother's 403 and it's still been going strong.
