Stock sized 205's up front is cool, but will only result in a smoke show on the rear.
I suggest squeezing a little more tread surface on there by running a 15x7 with a 255/60 that are painted to match the 14x6's up front.

If memory serves I used to rub around almost every turn when I ran even a 245 on the back with my 88 Monte.. Maybe if you roll the fenders a touch you would be "better" on the outsides but the rails will probably still get touched

I have 255/60R15's on the back of my 442 on the stock 15x7 rims, and there is plenty of room on both sides.
I have 255/60R15's on the back of my Olds wagon on 15x8.5 rims, and there is plenty of room on both sides.

Re: 1986 Olds Cutlass Salon Thread(About Time!)

Yea if you are rubbing in the rear on 245s your wheel backspacing or something is wrong. With good or even factory backspaceing all gbodys should fit at least 275s in the rear without rub. Is your car lowered? Maybe somebody put spacers between the brake drum and the wheel. Does your car have thicker aluminum drums? What did you think of the extremautomatics link? I have been involved in numerous performance gbodys since I bought my GN new in 86. Haveing a friend who does not build hi performance 200-4Rs for a living build you one is probably a mistake. Historically hi po 200-4Rs have been and still are bothched by even good reputation transmissions shops. There are several 200-4r guru builders/shops across the country. Its worth any extra for shiping.

If you stick with regular 205/14s in the rear you should just stick with the factory 7.5 as you won't hurt it. The Q-jet was probably overtightened. Q-jet re builders will junk it and grab a better core for even just a standard rebuild. You might consider an adjustable vacuum advance canister. There is a lot of power and performance in a good tune (mostly timing & carberation) no guru here but I believe an advance curve kit and an adjustable vacuum advance makes that much easier to obtain. IMO Bang for the performance buck includes a professional performance valve job. A crisp responsive engine and lots of power will be wee-d away without it. I like the ducting and adding another factory cold and forced air inlet. The thing is generally, & practically, more power is derived from the air being cold outside air than from air being forced in by the car moving. This you in turn give away by flipping your air breather lid so that the engine has to suck hot underhood air instead of much cooler denser good as it gets outside air. "my whole plan is to smoke ricers and maybe some mustangs, but not as radical so it can be a daily." I generally had the same plan with my Cutty. 😉 She ran 12.5s at 110mph in daily driver trim with AC while getting 17mpg hwy. Not great but my own efforts lotsa fun and stone reliable. You mentioned hoods and cold air induction check out the pics of my 442.

Edit crap why does the new website no longer have a button or link to a posters album???
PS good luck on your job hunt. It sucks haveing no budget to work with everything gets compramised.
PPS A good informative link for your car & goals. http://www.robertpowersmotorsports.com

Re: 1986 Olds Cutlass Salon Thread(About Time!)

I have been constantely on ropertpowersmotorsports.com for about 2 years now,I want to eventually do what he did,in retrospect. He painted the 455 semigloss black so it looks like a 307 olds, ran a/c and overdrive;basically made it a sleeper, which is what i'd like to do...except not run a/c and since i'm not to concerned about gas mileage-overdrive.

Re: 1986 Olds Cutlass Salon Thread(About Time!)

With that carb, I would find another one for parts, but use the main body from the 403 carb so that you can keep the 403 sized idle feed restriction. That air horn is garbage and not worth saving (as is the main body if it is cracked). Any cracked body component on a common carb is not worth the time to save it. If it was an oddball off some sort of Soviet car you imported from Russia that was never sold on this continent, that would be another thing. However, this is a Quadrajet and is almost as common as dirt.

Re: 1986 Olds Cutlass Salon Thread(About Time!)

You don't fully read or answer posts do you. Out of curiousity not that you will likely respond. At least not fully and without contradicting yourself. (Good manners towards those who answer your questions trying to help you is always a good idea. Isn't it?) What value is there in removeing the AC in a hotted up daily driver type car? Ita not an all out drag car where every pound counts and as soon as you open your hood the value of the black semi gloss sleeper look talked about is more than cancelled out. If you got a big chrome open element air breather, painted the engine bright red, and added white painted headers it could not scream modified any louder. Plus non AC sucks when its humid and lowers the value/re-saleability of the car. In an earlier post you stated you would like to buy a $3,400 overdrive and now in this post you state that you like Bob Powers sleeper (that was somewhere down on Bobs goals for the car list) except for the AC & overdrive. BTW gas mileage is a side benefit of owning a fast driver with an overdrive.

Great build up by Bob though completely comfortable daily driverable, dependable, and ran 12.3s at 110mph while getting 15mpg. Shame it was stolen. I know he did his homework and gave his blood sweat & tears to build it. Bet Bob would have gotten her to mid 11s with better mileage to boot with some time to tune it.

Re: 1986 Olds Cutlass Salon Thread(About Time!)

with the a/c,i would like to delete it so i can have more room in the engine bay/since my cutlass doesnt have a working a/c system in it to begin with there's no sense of leaving it in there to look pretty.MY cutlass isnt a daily driver,i have part time insurance on it and even if it was on full time insurance i wouldnt even think about taking it out in the winter, not that you already havent read that in a previous post.I don't actually think you've read any of my posts or saw any of the new engine pics,I took the open element air cleaner off the car during summer and put the dual snorkel one on it.The red engine paint is another thing,I DIDNT PAINT THE ENGINE!Once again if you would've read my previous posts you would have saw that i wrote the PO rebuilt and painted the engine chrysler red,NOT ME and i dont even have headers on the car yet too!Dogshit, what makes you think that I would resell my cutlass? As for the overdrive and bob powers cutlass,I am still deciding on a transmission,if i want a $3400 transmission like i stated i would have to get a tcc lockup kit because i'll be using an older carb on my 307,but i've crossed my mind on whether i should have my 2004r with or without overdrive since its a not a daily.I dont go on far trips with this car,nor like i said earlier am concerned with gas mileage,so i guess you got me there, but there is no reason you should try to tell me i painted my engine red, make it a drag car,put a 455 in it rather than a 350 and have everything bob powers had in his cutlass.I distinctly said i like the fact that he made his look like a sleeper and thats what i wanted to do,all i can say is Read the full thread before you go pointing fingers DOGSHIT.

Re: 1986 Olds Cutlass Salon Thread(About Time!)

Sheesh, you two, Play nice! :itchy:

With all due respect, I would retain the A/C if you want to have a sleeper theme. Mine doesn't work yet either, but it will in the future. However, it is your car to do with as you wish. Also, if you have a TH 200 4R, you have an overdrive by default. If you do not want an overdrive, get a TH 350. However, I would have both the Overdrive and the A/C in the car. You never know if you will need to use it as more than a weekend car and doing this gives it more flexibility. Mine is not a daily driver either, but all of this stuff will be fully functional because it makes the car more pleasant. Plus the added fuel economy means I can afford to drive it more often.

Re: 1986 Olds Cutlass Salon Thread(About Time!)

x2 ^
to both the play nice and keep it a sleeper theme.

I wish I still had my A/C and that my car came with a factory overdrive.
