The other thing about those China mounts is the steel shells are thinner that the India made set I gutted to use the poly inserts. Even the rivits used to connect the halves even cheap looking. One of these (nice) days I'm going to have to get the used mounts off the original frame & see how thick/thin those shells are (bought in '99.)

Ok , so I've read the issues with these mounts and still don't have a clue which ones I should get for my Bonneville
SBC conversion. Which manufacturer of mounts should I get? On rock auto they have 4 or 5 different ones.
Or is it just a crapshoot? Sorry OP, not trying to hijack...timo22

No I meant the cross holes. The one the big main mount bolt goes through. I did that and manipulated the rubber portion of the mount around with a screwdriver until the bolt went on through

No luck on the Duralast China mounts from AutoZone. So much for my optimism. Anyways, the rubber holes were closer, but not close enough, even with the mounts bolted up loosely. The passenger thru-bolt is in. Driver's side you can see the bracket hole, and the rubber hole nowhere near it to the inside. I think my next move is to grind out the holes on the mounts themselves to allow them to bolt up higher and wider.

I can't say I like the idea of enlarging the rubber hole, 79longroof. Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the mount?

Here is as close as i could get even with that big *ss sleever bar and screwdriver. (I turned the exposure way up in the pic so you can see the important dark colored stuff)

Maybe it's just the angle of the picture, but that passenger side looks like a truck bracket to me..timo22
Did you measure the brackets? Passenger 2 1/2" Truck 3"
Back of bracket to center of hole...

No I haven't measured the brackets, but i will now! By "Back of bracket to center of hole" do you mean from the center of the thru-hole, to the plane where it mounts to the engine block?

These brackets have been with this engine and car for eight years though

It looks like you have the wrong side engine mounts

No I meant the holes for the clamshell. Sorry I should have specified. You might have already done that though

Yes exactly. Think about it, no matter how different these frame mounts are, they can't be that far off..

I wouldn't start enlarging holes. Something is wrong. There is a parts mismatch or something is assembled wrong. Two sets of mounts with the same issue. It shouldn't be that far off.

I totally agree but I'm at a loss here. Just thinking out loud - The block and the brackets haven't changed. The two sets of new mounts are all that has changed and they don't fit right. The part number is the same for all the manufacturers, 2292. And we've already seen that there is a difference between the "Power Torque" brand from O'Reilly's and Duralast brand from AutoZone. Both China sh*t.

I'm also concerned that if I do relieve the holes in the mounts so they can bolt wider (and higher), I'm going to run into clearance issues with these headers.

I still need to measure the brackets as timo22 suggests to ensure they aren't the 3" truck brackets. But as mentioned these are the same brackets and motor I've had since I originally dropped the 350 in eight years ago.
