BUILD THREAD 1987 Olds 442 Project Build

Oh....I also found this pic of a 1969 W-30 trunk when I was looking at emblems. GOT to have a version of that Olds script mat in some way in the trunk of my 442.

I took the liberty to reduce the size of the red numbers...and kinda lifted that 2 a little since it was sagging...

I then noticed you needed a front nose rocket, and painted a 70-71 442 glove box emblem all red and tried it out to see how it looked. Not sure of the size. The original emblems were made from chromed potmetal. Similar to the 71/72 442 grille numbers.

Problem is with those mats, you'll lose some of it in the spare well unless the spare well is leaving. You would need to get a custom mat done or embroidered or something I would think.

You hit on the right sizing there. Too bad there isn't an emblem out there. Think I'm going to end up with no front 442. Just the doors and trunk lid.

They are about 200 new

As far as the mat, I want to do one of those multi-piece trunk kits and have the script under the material and showing through. Hafrod did a "GM" in his carpet. Thats what I'm going for. We'll see how that goes.

Thanks again for this tutorial. Finally got around to doing mine. Would never have happened without this vid! And that pivot pin tool is a life saver. Feels weird to drive the car and the steering wheel doesnt jiggle. Lol

Thanks Daca. I'm glad to hear it was useful to someone.

All the other vids on YT were from inside the car and the lighting and filming angles made it difficult to see every step. I figured, since I have it out, might as well do a close up step by step.
