More power potential, and it will also cost a lot more initially, even for a junkyard motor. Look at $1,500+ just to do the install... mounts, flywheel/flexplate, fuel system (at least $300 to even have the factory stuff set up to run without VATS, etc., carbed setup is $600, not including the carb), exhaust, odds & ends, etc. etc. etc.

Oh yeah, you still have to buy the motor too.
 
why would you take a step back and go to carb with the ls? the ls is just a monster when built. If your gonna go carb, do a 383. If you buy a ls motor take advantage of the fuel injection
 
It's all preference far as I'm concerned. EFI will help a little more on street manners, either setup could be run on the street just fine though.
 
yea, I kinda ment it another way, as in I would take advantage of the tunning abilites with the ls/efi. Not as in street manners. I just didnt know how to put it. I guess I shoulda put it like that haha.
 
well as u guys can see. iv changed my mind a couple times but i don't think there will be any difference in power from carb to efi. im thinking of going mostly track very little street. my bros building and ls motor right now and im liking the numbers those motors put out.. im looking at a short block for 450.00 and just do a head and cam on it. with a 350 transmission 4000 stall. my bro was telling me to get a mosier rear end not sure if i spelled it right.. then ill work on the suspension. my cusin told me he can get me a set of coilovers for cheap. i just gotta finish that flat black paint first.
 
You can even find long blocks for that price... whether or not you'll get a 6.0 I can't say.

Moser is the brand you're looking for. You could get a bolt-in 9", but after you buy the housing/axles and center section you're out an easy $2k. You may be able to find the parts cheaper though, and if you can find a used 8½" you may even be able to go cheaper.
 
450 for a long block. were?!! my main problem is that i really dont know were to look. i see them going for 1500 2000 on craigs. i would like anything other that the early model ls1 like the 98 z28, them heads dont flor right. i would love to get the ls2 or ls6, but ill basically settle for any lsx series sence im going to put head and cam on it. what im going to be picky on is the mileage on it. i want a heathy one sence im going to put a 150 200 shot i want it to last me some time. so i can get the forged bottom end. wil not be running on pump gas...
