I cant really tell from your pic how the cable is being pulled. If it is close to the diagram that is good. If not you might need to do some mods to get it there.

I didn't forget about the thread. There will be updates soon.

After three days of trying to break the line pressure test port plug loose and soaking with penetrating oil a few times a day it finally gave.

The pressure gauge also got held up in shipping and should arrive today.

Ok, so I've got some pressure readings. I want to do some driving while watching the gauge before I make a final decision but I think I'll be trying a shift kit.

RANGE, PSI @ MIN TV, PSI @ MAX TV
Park & Neutral, 65, 125
Reverse, 115, 230
D4 & D3, 65, 125
D2 & D1, 140, 140

Any thoughts?

Are those at idle? I believe it is supposed 1000 rpm and 1500 rpm.

Those are at 1000 rpm.

The Chevrolet manual said to check minimum and maximum TV at 1000 rpm. The numbers are within spec except maximum TV in P, N, D4, & D3. Those should be 140 or so and mine's a little low there.

I'm thinking when I do the shift kit, the pressure regulator mod and boost valve, should increase that. I'll also check the TV operation in the VB to make sure the cable and everything else is ok, while I'm in there.

I'm going to do some driving with it and watch the pressures. I'll make sure fluid is topped off and try some type F. I'll update the thread with numbers once the weather cooperates here in Indiana.

These were my pressures when the shifts were soft.
Reverse-120 at idle, 270 full TV pull, revving it up
Neutral-100 at idle and 210 full TV pull and revving it up
OD and 3,2,1- 70 at idle and 185 revved up and full TV pull.

Took it out with the different cable, full throttle and full pull. Around 80 at idle and 180 full throttle through the gears. I get about 230 in manual low. 130 and 280 in reverse. I was reading the .555 boost valve is better than .570 valve. So I then changed to a .555" boost valve and stiffer Sonnax slide spring, hit 220 in the forward gears. The .500" boost valve/.283 reverse valve in the Transgo kit should be adequate. The Sonnax or cheaper "pink" 700R4 slide spring should help and use hardened rings if you pull the pump.

You should also give David Husek a call. 516-285-1103
He can set you up with the parts you need and provide tech after the sale. Great to deal with.

I drove the car with the gauge hooked up. The pressures just varied low to high between the readings I listed above, makes sense.

I have all gears and downshifts. I'm going to try a "kit" or "improver", whatever you want to call it. I'm between CK Performance and the HD-2 Transgo right now. I am thinking about doing everything in the "kit" minus the servo and then do it later if I want firmer.

If anyone wants to chime in with preference I would appreciate it before I purchase one.

Do the Servo, the HD-2 kit comes with it. I could never get firm shifts without it. Just don't use all the washers that come with it without checking clearance. I did and had awesome shifts but took out the band. I believe I used one washer this time, not all three, when I checked the band clearance.
