As much as I support the LS swap, I think the flat head or perhaps a 4.3 Chevy will be more practical. Carb and dizzy for simplicity sake.

If you spun the 4.3 at 50 rpm with the electric motor youd get 7.6CFM. That's still enough to run a decent paint gun.
 
Before you do anything else make sure you get a hipo aftermarket pushrod, guideplate and rocker stud kit to compliment your flat tappet stock cam and used carb.
 
Probably a lot of us would just cut our losses and find another one. I assume these are rare and valuable where you live?

I am using solid lifters so I got 5/16" cromoly solid bar to match, I cut them to size for my pushrods....for the carb I got one from a running car, only problem is the car last ran 30 years ago........:popcorn:
 
If you are going to rebuild the motor.
Talk to Mr Sony, he will have some good information to help you on your rebuild planning.
